a lot of the researchers conclude with a kind of 'call to arms'...and a thought today is when do conspiracy researchers become a conspiracy in their own right!...there's one such called Q, QAnon, followers holding up signs at Trump rallies, and, it is on the speculative 'ban' list...

The FBI has identified prominent conspiracy theories, including the sprawling rightwing hoax known as QAnon, as motivators for “domestic extremists” to carry out violence in the US.

and, and last weekend,  the Proud Boy group marching in Portland spokesman spoke that the purpose was to bait Antifa, and follow on Trump wants to declare Antifa a domestic extremist...hmmph...the upshot of this is the web, youtube especially, will be 'curated'...the web has always had a problem with just terrible things being posted, and the big platforms like facebook and google have armies of curators who do nothing but filter posts...the computers can do a lot towards that end, but it takes human editing-curators...it's an odd thing, but the ancient enigma channels run like on a parallel track with the research conspiracy channels...so it's easy to drift off from one to the other...today's thought was to track 'jump cut', apparently a spook term, they have their own vocabulary, and see if it is like 'match cut'...the term I'm often using for side by side comparisons of motifs...brb...

quote

A jump cut is a cut in film editing in which two sequential shots of the same subject are taken from camera positions that vary only slightly if at all. This type of edit gives the effect of jumping forwards in time. It is a manipulation of temporal space using the duration of a single shot, and fracturing the duration to move the audience ahead. This kind of cut abruptly communicates the passing of time as opposed to the more seamless dissolve heavily used in films predating Jean-Luc Godard's Breathless, when jump cuts were first used extensively. For this reason, jump cuts, while not seen as inherently bad, are considered a violation of classical continuity editing, which aims to give the appearance of continuous time and space in the story-world by de-emphasizing editing. Jump cuts, in contrast, draw attention to the constructed nature of the film.

quote

In film, a match cut is a cut from one shot to another where the two shots are matched by the action or subject and subject matter. For example, in a duel a shot can go from a long shot on both contestants via a cut to a medium closeup shot of one of the duellists. The cut matches the two shots and is consistent with the logic of the action. This is a standard practice in film-making, to produce a seamless reality-effect.

oh, I woke up from an odd dream, and was thinking about it along the lines of this from above:

"For example, in a duel a shot can go from a long shot on both contestants via a cut to a medium closeup shot of one of the duelists."

that's a bit like looking at scene, and then using a telescope to look at something specific in scene...and a 'scene' might be a discussion, and the 'closup' the pre-supposition, the idea, of the scene...something like above the Proud Boys making a scene, and their pre-supposition was to get the attention of Trump, and have Trump go on about Antifa, declaring it a domestic terrorist...I keep picturing a picture with like an insert picture, the insert explaining the import of the complete picture...I dunno...it's like a kid who suddenly becomes shy in school...the picture...and the reason is the other kids are making fun of him because he just got glasses...the insert picture that explains the whole picture...lot of applications of this notion!...

Their quick exit from the stand-off against anti-fascist groups came just a few hours after President Trump signaled he was watching—which was apparently all many on the far-right wanted anyway.
“Go look at President Trump’s Twitter,” Proud Boys protest organizer Joe Biggs told The Oregonian when asked what message the group wanted to convey. “He talked about Portland, said he’s watching antifa. That’s all we wanted. We wanted national attention, and we got it. Mission success.”

Other early poets add further details: the Gorgons lived in the far west, toward the edge of night, on a rocky island beyond the streams of all-encircling Ocean.
... ... ...
The earliest images of the Gorgon, found on reliefs and painted vases, depict a disembodied head with staring eyes and a fat tongue protruding from a gaping mouth. The face is fringed with tight curls and very often—and importantly—a beard. On vase paintings, the Gorgoneion often serves as the central embellishment of a warrior’s shield. Remarkably, whether painted or sculpted, the Gorgon face is always shown face forward, staring at the viewer head-on—a striking fact given the Greek convention for depicting characters, human and divine, in profile.
... ... ...
The essential features of the Gorgoneion—bulging eyes, grimacing face, protruding tongue—are shared by monstrous creatures of other cultures. The Indian Kirtimukha, or “Face of Glory,” for example, appears in painted and sculpted forms on temples, statues, and over entryways. Bes, the stocky dwarf god of ancient Egypt, shares many Gorgon traits, including a grotesque head with protruding tongue, a fringe of beard, and face-on presentation. The wide-staring face in the Aztec calendar and face-on presentation. The wide-staring face in the Aztec calendar stone, dating to about 1479, is also Gorgon-like in appearance.

Kaiser Wilhelm II had a "lifelong obsession" with the Gorgon sculpture, which is attributed to his attendance at seminars on Greek Archaeology while at the University of Bonn.
... ... ...
The pediment depicts Medusa in a formulaic, stylised fashion; her feet are arranged in a configuration suggesting rotation, which in turn indicates motion or flight when applied to the attributes of Medusa, especially Medusa's wings.[13] The Medusa is wearing a mini–skirt which allows her legs freedom of movement while she is fleeing from Perseus. Her motion is further indicated by the formulaic positioning of her legs in the so–called Knielauf position which stylistically resembles a swastika.
... ... ...
The Gaze of the Gorgon is a film-poem created by Tony Harrison, which examines the politics of conflict in the 20th century using the Gorgon as a metaphor. The narration of the film is done through the mouth of a statue of the Jewish poet Heinrich Heine, which Kaiser had removed from the Achilleion after he took over ownership of the palace from Empress Elizabeth of Austria. The film describes the connection between Heine, the Corfu Gorgon, and Kaiser Wilhelm II who had an obsession with the Gorgon.[8][23][24] In the film, Harrison's voice narrates:[9]

...what was Kaiser up to? Excavating on Corfu, the scholar Kaiser on the scent of long lost temple pediment not filling trenches, excavating the trenches where the Gorgon's waiting there in the trenches to supervise the unearthing of the Gorgon's eyes.

In his book Petroglyphs of California, Steward wrote: "It has frequently been stated that the petroglyphs and pictographs are meaningless figures made in idle moments by some primitive artist. The facts of distribution, however, show that this cannot be true. Since design elements and style are grouped in limited areas, the primitive artist must have made the inscriptions with something in mind. ... Mythology - New World Encyclopedia
https://www.newworldencyclopedia.org/entry/Mythology

Some myths are based on historical events. These myths can over time become imbued with symbolic meaning, transformed, shifted in time or place, or even reversed. Over time, such "myths" make the transition from "legendary occurrence" to "mythical status," as the event takes on progressively greater symbolic resonance while the facts become less important. By the time it reaches the status of myth, the story has taken on a life of its own and the facts of the original event have become almost irrelevant. A classical example of this process is the Trojan War, an historical event that is now a part of Greek mythology.

https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Onomasiology

Onomasiology (from Greek: ὀνομάζω (onomāzο)—to name, which in turn is from ὄνομα—name) is a branch of linguistics concerned with the question "how do you express X?" It is in fact most commonly understood as a branch of lexicology, the study of words (although some apply the term also to grammarand conversation).

Onomasiology, as a part of lexicology, starts from a concept which is taken to be prior[1] (i.e. an idea, an object, a quality, an activity etc.) and asks for its names. The opposite approach is known as semasiology: here one starts with a word and asks what it means, or what concepts the word refers to. Thus, an onomasiological question is, e.g., "what are the names for long, narrow pieces of potato that have been deep-fried?" (answers: french fries in the US, chips in the UK, etc.), while a semasiological question is, e.g., "what is the meaning of the term chips?" (answers: 'long, narrow pieces of potato that have been deep-fried' in the UK, 'slim slices of potatoes deep fried or baked until crisp' in the US).

Onomasiology can be carried out synchronically or diachronically, i.e. historically.

The natural further step is to argue that Homer, the supposed founder, is a mythical figure, a mere back-formation, deriving his name from that of the later guild.

https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Back-formation

In etymology, back-formation is the process of creating a new lexeme by removing actual or supposed affixes.[1] The resulting neologism is called a back-formation, a term coined by James Murray[2] in 1889. (OED online preserves its first use of 'back-formation' from 1889 in the definition of to burgle; from burglar.)[3]

For example, the noun resurrection was borrowed from Latin, and the verb resurrect was then back-formed hundreds of years later from it by removing the -ion suffix. This segmentation of resurrection into resurrect + ion was possible because English had examples of Latinate words in the form of verb and verb+-ion pairs, such as opine/opinion. These became the pattern for many more such pairs, where a verb derived from a Latin supine stem and a noun ending in ionentered the language together, such as insert/insertion, project/projection, etc.

So, so, how it works with mythology is like a culture needs a founding myth, an answer to: "where did we come from, how did we start?", or some mythological explanation for an event, or Natural phenomona, or even things like the origen of the whole Earth and Universe...for the Romans there was Romulus and Remus...Virgil added the Aneid, which said Romans descended from the Fall of Troy...oh, all this for tomorrowmorrow!...Indians made out...to top of ninth...Renigfo hit by pitch...'sounded like ball hitting bat'...it hit his arm protector...Thais with a hit...two runs score...Indians 7-3...Fletcher up...Indian runs all came in first three innings...I took a nap...rookie pitch came in in first inning for Angels, and went 7 and a half...Fletch made out...Trout fly out...game over...sigh...it's too hot...oh, that bit about french fries relates to captioning!...for sometime...
