OTI:one pic, notes:11/5/17

Notes: Sappho from an ancient Greek vase...see wiki's entry on Sappho...I know Petra wears pantaloons and a blouse...so have been casting about the web for blouses...and faces too!...to make an illustrated novel like story, I'm thinking, I need to have characters and costumes I can draw from any angle...I can render from a model or pic in front of me...but to render from imagination is another thing all together!...ancient artists knew all the landmarks in figure drawing...came upon that thought copying some of those 'primitive' Egyptian paintings...they could have made things perfectly lifelike if they wanted too...art history classes teach that they didn't have modern skills...not so...they cultivated a kind of un reality...just look at the centuries of stylized Japanese and Chinese art...those from cultures whose very writing system was Chinese brush and ink...they were all skilled...as Western cultures too when they still used quill pens...doing the copy, I often thought, 'oh, you knew this, and this, and that...' thinking along with the ancient artist doing each line...the Greek vase paintings are like masterpieces...brb...
Red-figure vase painting of a woman holding a lyre. On the left, a bearded man with a lyre is partially visible.

See!...oh...didn't set clock back...only twenty to eleven...time to spare!

:)
