Open To Interpretation

Happy Fourth

Notes:  sun went down...let the flowery booms begin...it will go on like this for hours...on youtube, there are drone footages of fireworks over cities...Angels won today, Angels 5, Orioles 4...another walk off in the ninth...and Ohtani with #31 home run...Walsh is to join him and Trout at the All Star Game the 14th...Trout still injured, so won't play...Dodgers are winning too, but so are the Giants and Padres...time was I binge read Egyptian books, well, time still is, but now it's browsing the web rather than used book store shelves...and I know some of the explanations of the motifs above...and, and no one is sure what any of them are!...how would one know what Fourth of July fireworks are for, without the lore, without the history, about Francis Scott Key, who, I've just learned, found slave owning agreeable, his uncle the Judge of the Dread Scott case...these historical tid bits coming to the fore!...some judgement in progress, not unlike the Weighing of the Heart above...that's the assumed meaning of that vignette-it's judgment day...but looking at it, I thought, WAIT!, there's something else!...the heart is shown to be equal with the feather...clearly, hearts weigh more than feathers, so it is odd, the conceit being if your heart is free of wrong it will be as light as the feather of Maat, Maat being the goddess of justice, among her other attributes...just the word "Maat" encompasses "harmony"...what we might call today, the balance of Nature...note "balance"...but, but something else struck my fancy, looking at the feather and heart...came to mind, the cannonball and feather of Galileo...while the feather and cannonball have different mass, the ball much greater, in the vacuum, they will fall, be attracted by the Earth's gravity, at the very same speed, velocity...clips on youtube showing this...it's about as counterintuitive as anything can be...and it's a reach, I know, but there on the scale an equality is shown between the heart and feather falling in vacuum...unintended by the Egyptians, of course, of course...and all the car alarms going off...
