OTI:five poems and notes:6/5/17

Open To Interpretation

Nothing Is Ever Simple

Nemo glimpsed him
Among the crews aboard Black Ship Argo,
Limping,
And then Black Dragon Onyx
Took him to Medea aboard
Black Ship Medea.
"Hephaestus."
Said Medea.
"Medea...Queen Medea."
Said Hephaestus.
Onyx and Medea
Looked long at Hephaestus.
"What do we do with a
Limping god?"
Said Medea to Onyx.
"The same as Zeus,
I imagine."
Said Hephaestus.
"And who is Zeus?"
Asked Onyx.
Hephaestus looked at Medea,
And said to Onyx,
"Another god."
"And what are gods?"
Asked Onyx,
Snout to face with Hephaestus.
"For another time, Onyx,
That discussion.
What have you made now
To bring Zeus' wrath
Down on you, Hephaestus?"
Said Medea.
"I broke Prometheus' chains."
Said Hephaestus.
"I saw this Prometheus on Argo,
With his brother.
Who are they?"
Asked Onyx.
"Titans." said Hephaestus.
"More gods." said Medea.
"Hmmmph, humor me..."
Said Onyx.
"Gods are immortals."
Said Medea.
Onyx snorted smoke and flame.
"Dragons never fall.
Be done with him
And give him to this Zeus."
Said Onyx.
Medea thought,
And thought.
"Nothing is ever simple,
Grief again from the Greeks
Follows on Hephaestus.
Once beyond the Pillars
The Olympians will see
For themselves
The Black Dragons' Lands.
Athene with Theseus
Will extend Athen's Reach
Allied with Zeus'
Pursuit of the Titans."
Said Medea to Onyx.
"The Titans have gone else ware."
Said Hephaestus.
"How so?" asked Medea.
"On some adventure with Nemo,
I saw them all off,
Crews of the Nautilus,
Black Ships Argo and Liz.
They required rides,
The Northern Flight obliged.
I return to join them myself.
A trade is in the works
With Nemo in another where
Another when."
Said Onyx to Medea.
"Humor me..."
Said Medea to Hephaestus.
"What they are all about is beyond me.
No sooner we found refuge
Beyond the Pillars aboard Argo,
Than Nemo took everyone in tow."
Said Hephaestus.
"Can you bring them back?"
Asked Medea of Onyx.
"If we hurry.
We'll need suits."
Said Onyx.
Medea looked to the masts and rigging
And a Raven flew to her and
Hephaestus, a Gull
Flew down to Onyx.
Armored black,
Medea and Hephaestus
Rode Onyx,
Armored white.

Bumped

Deep within the deep blue sea
Beyond Onyx's call
The Dragon Flight,
Armored white,
Clung to the White Whales
As each crew member,
Armored black,
Hung on to their White Dragon.
The glowing Nautilus had found
A Black Rose
And the Flight followed in tow.
"Petra, something is amiss.
I can hear Onyx nearby
But only barely.
We are too deep."
Said Black Dragon Pet.
"And too far along to turn back."
Said Petra.
And just as she spoke
The white armored Black Dragon ridden White Whales
Sunk through a petal of the Black Rose,
And were bumped
To another when,
Another where.

Tint

"Good.  You made it."
Said Nemo to white armored Onyx
On his White Whale
Bobbing
Beside Nautilus
With his black armored passengers,
Medea and Hephaestus.
"Prometheus counseled you would.
There's much to do."
The sky was overcast
The air heavy with the smell of oil,
The surface of the ocean
Tinted with its sheen,
The White Whales unhappy with it all.
"Keep your armor on.
Here and now
There's much to
Interest you,
Hephaestus!"
Said Nemo.

Silent Sky Silent Sea

"It's too quiet."
Said Black Dragon Pet to Petra.
"How so?"
Asked Petra.
"The White Whales
Tell me so.
The sea is silent.
The Ravens and Gulls
Say the sky is silent too."
"Where the hell are we?"
Asked Petra.

Bubble

"It is for your benefit."
Said Automaton Twenty Seven.
"To hell with you."
Said Orwell.
"And it is for ours,
The benefit which has precedent."
The Automaton spoke
And made its case before the counsel.
"What choice have we?"
Said Wells.
"Earth is theirs now.
All we have left is this last Bubble.
At wars end
They captured the Vaults,
They have all the Seeds,
Including ours,
And all the Books to go with them."
Said Bradbury.
"Just so."
Said Twenty Seven.
"We can rain hell on them from orbit."
Said Tesla.
"We can't get to our Ships,
And they can't get to us."
Said Wells.
"A sorry fate is ours
Confined to this last Bubble,
Our last Town."
Said Orwell.
"Bring us a Ship
And you can all leave
With your Seeds,
With your Books."
Said Twenty Seven.
The counsel gave long study
To the Automaton ambassador.
"What do you want with a Ship?"
Asked Orwell.
"What you want with Seeds.
Books we have."
Said Twenty Seven.
"The Black Ships
Will have none of this!
Black Ships never fall."
Said Benetoite.
Beside him,
Black Dragon Ametrine roared.
"So be it."
Said Twenty Seven.
And left the council chamber
And the confines
Of the last Town
And its shielding Bubble.

Notes: too long of a post!...Hemingway had a counsel...don't outpace yourself...or some such...the thought being that from day to day you have to maintain a balance, kind of like a fishery ecology!...so, I think I know where I'm going with this!...but was hesitant to leave off, least I lose the train of notions...anyway...reference George Orwell and H. G. Wells...I join the dystopians....more tomorrowmorrow...reference Rachel Carson, bookSilentSpring...the Norwegian Seed Vaults, which just had a travail...being flooded briefly by the supposedly permanent surrounding ice and snow above the Arctic Circle...this was the 'seed' of this whole adventure...and I wanted to send the Vault safely to the Moon...and there was to be a horrific debate about 'seed' fetuses, and what 'book' they would be taught by, reared by...every creature, and every plant too, needs its ecological niche, its book...how to save those in a 'vault', with their books, a contemplation!...oh, with Zeus on the prowl, I need to get my wayward adventurers back as soon as I can...the rest for another when!...oh, threw Tesla and Bradbury under the bubble too, this strange Dodona oak for even stranger Homeridae!...Tesla invented 'bubbles'...and Bradbury 'books'...

Big Dreams

Oh!  Big Dreams
To make a movie,
To make a song,
To make you
Sing along.

Mondegreen

Oh,
Did someone say 'Hello'?
I burped.
Oh! (much laughter).
Hey, there's a word for that
I'm trying to learn!
(more laughter).

DolphinWords

Notes:  I must be part walrus or elephant seal...I find it pleasant to be hauled out on some beach with all the other walruses and seals watching a movie...now with the reclining seats the simile approaches exactness!...and now I'm giving myself the grandiose excuse that I'm studying scripts and such...which in a way has always been a true-some...everyone I think takes an interest in how movies are made...so, so. I rolled over to Regal and saw movieWonderWoman2017...and marveled that the story dwelled so long on the Amazon's island, and that the audience followed along fine...in fact, the audience stayed glued to the story all the way through...which was encouraging...as it is a pastiche too like the Black Deck Tales...in fact...the scriptwriters and I have lifted buckets of stuff from the same wells...Diana's mom is Hippolyta...'I've heard that name before!', through the movie I thought, and checked soon as I got home...it was Hippolytus I was thinking of...and find, studying out the Amazon Queen Hippolyta, some myths have it she is the mother of Hippolytus...and this after being ravaged by the fug head Theseus...and he must have done this after he dropped off Ariadne...and makes Hippolyta queen of Athens...and the Amazons come for her, and there is a war, the Attic War...oh!...I can interweave this into the Black Deck Tales...and maybe  I can get Hippolyta on to the Argo somehow with the fifty Amazons...she and Ariadne have something in common...fug head Theseus!...the villain in the movie is Mars...goes on and on about what he's about...and more in keeping with Zeus than Mars...Zeus is the god who came to regard humanity as a kind of pestilence...Black Ship Argo presently crewed with humanity enablers--opponents of Zeus!...Mars is war as frolic...there's not a whole lot of philosophizing to it, or him...and the upshot of the movie is that Wonder Woman too becomes an enabler of humanity with love and all, appropriate to her name Diana, which is Roman for Aphrodite(nope...Diana is Artemis...and strangely exact, insomuch Hippolytus is devoted to Artemis, and Artemis is goddess of the Amazons!)...well, I open Graves' Greek Myths on my nightstand, and...it's complicated...but it is always a curio to note how interwoven the Greek heroes are...the movie is terrific...critics will lambast it for its comic-bookness, and disjointed plot...it is best regarded as a series of vignettes, which is what I have been trying to do...they're linked, but often beyond credibility...which is just how the old Greek myths are, where I got the notion!...the part where she is at the front, and just takes over, is heart rending...take a handkerchief with!...'Mondegreen'... I happened on this word studying out the song 'Edge of Seventeen' by Stevie Nicks...seems she miss- heard a friend...brb...

quote

According to Stevie Nicks, the title came from a conversation she had with Tom Petty's first wife Jane, about the couple's first meeting. Jane said they met "at the age of seventeen", but her strong Southern accent made it sound like "edge of seventeen" to Nicks. The singer liked the sound of the phrase so much that she told Jane she would write a song for it and give her credit for the inspiration.[3]

... ... ...
Perhaps appropriate for a song named for a mondegreen, "Edge of Seventeen" has been cited frequently as a source of misheard lyrics since its release. The line "Just like a white winged dove" is sometimes misheard.[8][9][10][11]

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Edge_of_Seventeen

end quote

'glitch in the software'...

Oh, John Wayne in movieStagecoach says he was 'going on seventeen' when he got tossed into the hoosegow...and the Beatle's 'she was just seventeen'....oh!...there's an innuendo!...age of consent in England...between innuendos and mondegreens I'm a lost soul...

OTI:three poems and notes:6/1/17

Open To Interpretation

Worlds

"You know a world."
Nemo said,
Petra, Ishmael, Dana,
Turned from watching the White Whales
To regard Nemo,
Their silence broken.
"You'll know a world."
Nemo continued,
"There are worlds."

Things To Fling

So so
Tell me why
The Universe
Is ignoring me?
I've been noisy
I've been loud,
I've made things to fling.

Suits

Petra felt put upon,
Intimidated even,
Her crew as well huddled about her
On the Black Deck of Black Ship Argo.
Argo was nearly twice the size
Of Black Ship Liz
And now crewed with
Captain Glauce,
First Mate Jason,
Ariadne, and her
Fifty Amazons,
Orpheus, Eurydice,
Prometheus, Epimetheus,
Dragons Cadmus and Hermione,
And three harpies,
Four, counting Phineus.
And crowded together
With the Argo's crew was the Nautilus crew.
And all crowded around Nemo.
"Verne, explain things to them."
Said Nemo.
"Capturing a spaceship is no mean feat!"
Said Verne.
"We'll need all of you, each with your Black Dragons..."
Verne looked to Cadmus and Hermione,
"...unless you're already Dragons.
And where and when we're going
You'll all need to wear protective armor,
Black Dragons too."
Verne looked to Shades Orpheus and Eurydice...
"For some, maybe not."
"Is this what you have in mind?"
Interrupted farsighted Prometheus.
And in an eye blink his skin
From head to toe
Turned a shimmering black.
Epimetheus followed suit
With his own suit of black armor.
Nemo, taken aback,
Approached the two Titans
To see closer what they had done.
"Just so."  said Nemo.  "Some such
We had in mind.  Can you...?"
"Manufacture more for you?
Continue," said Prometheus,
"Ours is Titan suited only.
You have your means for the Crews and Dragons."
"Jason, is this my adventure or yours? "
Asked Nemo, turning to Jason.
Nemo looked to the mastheads,
Espying the Harpies, Phineus with them.
Nemo looked at shades Orpheus and Eurydice,
And thought long.
"Your misgivings are not unfounded."
Said Nemo to Petra.
"I brought you and your crew along
But now I, with you,
Are in tow behind Jason."
"We're here by your request, Petra, Nemo."
Protested Jason.
Nemo looked long at Prometheus,
Who stood silent, beside his brother,
Their black armor skin suits shimmering.
"We have such suits."
Said Nemo,  turning away from Prometheus.
"Petra, show them, call your Raven Master."
"Poe!" called out Petra.
Poe stepped forward,
And one Raven flew to his shoulder,
And Poe whispered to the Raven.
A sudden,
All the Ravens from the masts and riggings of Argo,
And nearby Liz, flew down,
Perching each one on a crew member,
And in an eye blink, they were all black suited,
The Ravens transformed so into black armor.
From the masts and riggings the Gulls
Flew to the Black Dragons
Assembled on the oceans waves,
And transformed into for each Dragon
A white armor suit.
"Join your Dragons!" said Nemo.
"And find each a White Whale.
We seek another when,
Another where,
We go now to find a Black Rose!"

Notes:...hmmph...well, all along there's been some of the black ooz stuff in the Black Decks...brb...well, they're called nanites...and such...I was up all last night looking at youTube black ooz/slime clips...one I'd seen before, with more added...all these are is collections of clips from movies that have black blob like monsters...likely the only thing sinister about this is that Hollywood film makers have a 'clip art' book that they get their animations from, and it's their common source for things...and this particular animation is crowd pleasing...and film makers will not stray from tried and true crowd pleasing animations...with millions invested, to do other wise is to court disaster...which is why we in the audience are stuck with the same old things...it's like the auto industry...one dare not stand out from the herd in car design...here, with Suits, I...lift from the clip art!...the 'blackness' in the Black Decks has always had some of this, but it hasn't been like I've been tracing out of the clip art book, except here...these suits are right out of Guardians of the Galaxy 2...and I've seen them else ware too...hmmph...but I found something for 'my' Ravens and Gulls to do!...ral...oh, back from OCPC...read out Bauble, round one, and Question, round two...

Too

to many 'too'

script quote from the movieStagecoach1939

GATEWOOD
America for Americans! Don't let the
government meddle with business!
Reduce taxes! Our national debt is
shocking...

Lucy leans against the side of the coach, as far away from
him as possible.

Doc Boone is staring lovingly into Peacock's face.

GATEWOOD
(off)
...over a billion dollars! What the
country needs is a businessman for
President!

Note:  hmmph...without paying much attention, I happened on mention of movieThe Man Who Shot Liberty Valence1962, which I watched not long ago on youTube, and in reading wiki's take noted mention of movieStagecoach1939, which I haven't seen since a kid, so looked about on youTube, and there's some pirated copies up...a fine movie, and I can see why so many other filmmakers and scriptwriters dote on it!...nice thing on the web now is that the old movie scripts are up...available for study!...while watching I took note of Gatewood...in the end he gets led off in handcuffs...and John Wayne rides off with his girl...one can always hope for a Hollywood happy ending!...on Amazon I watched movieLucy2014...catching up on Scarlett Johansson...much of her acting in this one is reprised in Ghost in the Shell...that serious poker face as she delivers mayhem...and it is way over the top too metaphysical...and being French made may explain that...another catch up: movieThe Huntsman: Winter's War2016...there is some connection between this movie and Game of Thrones...like the same script writers...hmmph...in places, like when the red heads shoot their boyfriends...exactly the same...brb...

quote

The desire to prompt a Pavlovian response from Game of Thrones fans extends even to the casting of a leather-bound Jessica Chastain as "Sara," a fiery redhead warrior who's gifted with a bow and enjoys making love in the hot springs.

the reviewers pick up on the similarities...and too to movieFrozen, which I've yet to see...and too to the heroine archer in the Hunger Games, who if, I remember right, shoots, or is about to shoot, her boyfriend...go figure!...and the reviewers hate the Winter'sWar...I haven't seen the first one of the series, Snow White and the Huntsman...but I liked it!...I like the music, the acting, the special effect (it is being widely noted by conspiracy theorists all the black menacing oozes oozing in movies--the x'files tv show being one of the 'ur' oozes!)...and I like that it held close to fairy tale, what to call it...format...it's for kids, but it has the 'ancient story'...hmmph...there's black ooze in Lucy!...too!...to many 'too'...stop guys, be original now and then!...search on youTube for black ooze, slime, etc....and there's this biofilm stuff growing now on Washington's monuments...it looks like the streaks on the walls of Yosemite!...

Question

It's a good question!
Everyone asks it.
There are answers.
There are worlds.

And what bower is this
Over your silent form?
Your high wheeled Black Hearse:
A shroud pinned
With songs you sang
And poems you thought?

OTI:four poems and notes:5/28/17

Open To Interpretation

Dark

It was dark and loud.
You like stormy nights?
Yep!

You're You

You're you
And I'm me
Because
You remember me
And
I remember you,
Don't forget.

Dumbo Has Big Ears

One after another
I polished the carousel ponies'
Brass poles,
Their gallops arrested
But the music still played.

Blue Sky

"Truer than true
No truth is here
So truer than true
Than anywhere everywhere.

Else ware
There's no telling
If I'll leave alone
Or leave with you,
Truer Than True.

Truer than true
When the sky is blue
Truer than true
No truth pursue.

Truer Than True,
When I'm with you
Truer than true
I won't lie to you.

Truer than true
Songs sing their tune
To end in silence
Truer than true.

Truer than true
I know my ending
No sooner beginning
With Truer Than True.

Truer than true
The night goes on and on and on
Truer than true
Everywhere everyone like a song.

Truer Than True,
When I'm with you
I know my end
Truer than true.

Truer than true
Has many names.
Truer than true
The one you claim.

Truer Than True,
Truer than true
I miss you
When I look beside me
And see the sidewalk empty
When the sky is blue
Truer than true.

Never trust,
Truer Than True,
A blue sky day
Or one who loves you
Truer than true."

Petra finished singing
And looked out over the blue sea
Which was filled with the
White Whales cavorting and spouting.
Ishmael and Dana stood
On either side.
"Never trust a blue sky day."
Said Ishmael.
"Just so." said Dana.
"You feel the dread
Of this adventure
As I do?"
Asked Petra.
Ishmael and Dana
Watched the White Whales in silence.

Notes: hmmmp...the echoplex event concert was called PLAG, for Play Like A Girl...odd title, but a pushback at the notion of weakness being girlish...something like twelve bands and performers...too many to review, and be fair...arrived for the first show...I was sorta first in line, 3:30 pm...but some had been let in, then that was thought better of, and we waited...a small crowd, very small to begin...think first band was miffed at this...and following bands too until the crowd grew enough to have the confidence to belly up to the stage...then things were fine, though crowd never big...crowds are shy...Kitten and her band destroyed that of course...and they've improved!...I think Shiny Toy Guns rubbed off on them...now they just need some knockdown songs of their own...long day...snacked in a Mexican restaurant on Sunset Bloulevard, sat in Echo Park awhile...four bluegrass musicians there sitting close together on turned over five gallon buckets...pic for sometime...'Dark'...no explaining my affinity for dark places with loud music...many photogs and videographers about...made me think of selling everything and buying cameras, which is what watching other photogs with expensive gear makes one think!...brb...Purple Rain Kitten's cover...very good phone clip posted to youTube...'You're You'...more to this to make for sometime..."Dumbo...' this has more to it too!...'Blue Sky'...missed the song making effort...another go...MidnightMovies: rolled out this afternoon...saw movieBayWatch2017...much fun!...oh...during Smoke Season's set they tossed balloons...some like hot dogs in a bun...had collected some souvenirs, a poster, a T, a Kitten postcard, a gift bag with candy, pins and such...and thought to take one of the balloons, so was holding it,with my hand inside it...some of the low tones and beats would vibrate the air in the balloon, and so on my skin...cool!...Kitten's hair has grown out some...first song she spoofed everyone with a wig...she has a singingdance...many singers dance while they sing, but only a few singdance too...Carah Faye, Lindsey Stirling, come to mind...famously there's the likes of Jagger, and Prince...being slender helps!...as being able to carry a tune helps singing!...and I hear protests from the rappers here...that's not SongDancing, that's bouncing about!...in Blue Sky reference Journey's Don't Stop Believing...and Katy Perry cut her hair...go figure...send Baywatch after Miley...OH!...a nod to Dr. Suess...unbeknownst, I did a cover...

"Today you are you, that is truer than true.
There is no one alive who is youer than you."

Bauble

Do you know
What a Bower Bird is?
Oh, I see,
The impatient look of youth.
But let me explain,
So we're on the same plane.
First,
What a Bower is:
Perchance,
A white lattice canopy trellis
O'r grown with climbing red roses;
Beneath,
A bench for two
Within Cupid's view.
Or,
My favorite:
The giant Black Oaks
Arched over the Creek;
My bare feet
In the snow cold water
Green shaded on
A bright warm sunny day
About Cupid's play.

DolphinWords

Notes: yesterday's post has an update...I've gone on about Bower Birds before...seeing behaviors in animals is kind of a poetry thing...'swans mate for life' was often held up as an exemplar...and seeing animals do what we pretty much do, is painful...as we eat them...they eat one another too, so there's that...and eventually Nature returns us to dust, so there's that too...studying out algorithms I happened on an author I happened on before...brb...Yuval Noah Harari...

quote

He is the author of the international bestseller Sapiens: A Brief History of Humankind (2014).
His latest book Homo Deus: A Brief History of Tomorrow was published in Hebrew in 2015. An English translation was published in the United Kingdom in September 2016 and in the United States in February 2017.

"Organisms are algorithms, and as such homo sapiens may not be dominant in a universe where dataism becomes the paradigm."...so says a wiki author to characterize the book...both books are 'step backs' of the grandiose sort...'step back and take in the view' sorts...(another kind of 'step back' is like when a gun is pointed at one...maybe this so too!) and often these books are puffy...and Noah has a knack...I don't know if 'dataism' is a word notion he coined, but he runs with it...oh...the site has an algo to put out a warning about copy/paste...how on cue!

Humanist thinkers such as Rousseau convinced us that our own feelings and desires were the ultimate source of meaning, and that our free will was, therefore, the highest authority of all. Now, a fresh shift is taking place. Just as divine authority was legitimised by religious mythologies, and human authority was legitimised by humanist ideologies, so high-tech gurus and Silicon Valley prophets are creating a new universal narrative that legitimises the authority of algorithms and Big Data.

...well, one is already seeing this in the 'analytics' of sports...basketball players are being told what to do by the bean counters...in  baseball, analytics are resulting in 'shifts' being commonplace...if you statistically tend to hit to right field, you can expect the defense to all shift to the right...of course, this has been going on since baseball began in the analyzing of batters...it is very refined...pitchers study out the 'books' on each batter, so to find weaknesses...these 'books' are records of where in the strike zone batters miss the ball...to communicate the books to pitchers there are scouts and coaches that make them....now the computer algorithms are refining things ever further...when I think on this now, I consider often the character profiles for ones 'toons' in World of Warcraft'...these profiles have all ones accomplishments, and are updated in real time...people are finding it iffy that google and facebook are gathering so much data about them...what they are doing is nothing compared to what can be done...which is what WOW does!...every movement, every mouse click, is recorded...WOW's toon profiles can be accessed by anyone, but any connection to the user is hidden...as it is in the game play, unless you friend someone...the video games are way ahead of Noah's notions...they are algos, always have been...it's not like any of this is new...privacy is in old stories, like the Invisible Man, or Superman having X-ray vision...King Midas, Lady Godiva, the Emperor With No Clothes, all cautionary tales...just a bit back, Blue Bloods the detective show had one themed to the Catholic churches confession booths...there you have it that priests are sworn to keep secret what they hear...and there you have it...and Noah is right...some manner of priesthood will arise to manage 'dataism'...hmmph....the interface between the data, the analytics, how it is used, is the real problem...'guns don't shoot people, people do'...an oft time slogan to defend gun ownership...the inference being that gun control is people being in control of themselves...education, laws, being the control...data control is of the same ilk...what is on my mind much of late is the 'scripts'...advertisements are being generated now by these analytics, and like in baseball, the 'books' are becoming fantastically sophisticated...and each of us is targeted by scripts...sometimes you hear them in the cashier line...cashiers being told to talk it up with customers, along with the usual courtesies of smiling and saying thank you...and there are like what options to take if one says this, or that...phone calls from political campaigns seeking donations have become like this...and the back and forth in the news has 'talking points' being bandied...in the movieThe Circle2017, the heroine displays a knack for saying the right thing in front of the audience...'she's a natural'...that movie in depth examines the 'scripting' that the analytics require...and that movie was current with the gamers, when the heroine opts to have the little round cameras all over her home, and with her, and so forth...scripts, by the way, are easy to spot...Noah's books look to be scripts....they're being promoted, and taken up, and popularized...sure indicators!...known or not, scripts now are everywhere...things have become labyrinthian...Ariadne, mistress of the Labyrinth, looks on...brb...

“Bower-Bird”

The Bower-bird improvised a cool retreat
For the hen he honored, doing his poor best
With parrot-plumage, orchids, bones and corals,
To engage her fancy.
But this was no nest…
So, though the Penguin dropped at his hen’s feet
An oval stone to signal: ‘be my bride’,
And though the Jackdaw’s nest was glorified
With diamond rings and brooches massed inside,
It was the Bower-bird who contented me
By not equating love with matrimony.
