Somethings' somethings'
Somethings about somethings.

Notes: something's afoot in the google menus...first, my visitor count number for blog post visits is now always at 0...this began a few days back with just the most recent...now looks to be all the way back, 0,  all the posts...not to be missed visitor visits...those famous numbers below youtubes, are not to be trusted...but there is something consoling in seeing that the blog gets out there, even if it is just bots that find it, or miss clicks from someone search wording...tried to crowd source why the count is gone, and find in google blogger news, some features are being disabled for various reasons...time was I could do a narrow search of google blogs much like the web wide google search, but that got disabled...actually, that search never turned up much...there are millions of blogs, blogger's blogs, word press blogs, etc., being made everyday...new ones I mean...billions of established ones with pages being added everyday...so, so it's a welter...a search engine is like Feynman in the corner of the pool...he came up with a thought example of the circumstances of physicists studying electromagnetic waves...compared it to someone in a big public swimming pool, standing in a corner, back to the crowd, and looking into the ripples lapping in the corner's pool sides, and trying to extrapolate from that what all is happening behind...physicists do do something like this, made possible because the universe is self similar at all scales...gravity on earth is the same as gravity on the other side of the universe...or some such...anyway, so search engines sorta bring up just what is in your local corner of things...and it's a guess from my searches what is going on out in the big pool...there's a lot I don't see...there's a lot who don't see me...then, then there's 'shadow boxing', or 'boxing the shadows'...a term I made up early on, 1987 about, when I was first online on GEnie, for the web's strangeness...the sysops, the trolls, the sock puppets, the bots, things that now are commonplace...there's no way to know how one's postings are being received, or manipulated...today, facebook has made another photo compilation of my facebook travels, suggesting I share it...google compiles my images for their images pages...both synopse the blog posts with log lines for their search lists...sometimes with photo...I'd be flattered by the attention, but it is all done robotically...academia.edu, which I had to join to read a page, now gives me a headsup when my name is in someone else's posts...my name is odd...my last name isn't a 'name'...it's an adjective or something...so my first name is a common one, and my second a common adjective, so, so a search engine will find these two words...and there I am in some post somewhere, but not really...just the two words happen to be together...now, the two next to one another, that narrows things...but, to really narrow things, there is my email address...try a vanity search on that!...zip...and only a few for my name, which quickly morphs into camera sites...so, well, I don't expect anything from google searches trying to find my sites, or me...lol...if I was selling something, that'd be different...as it is, the content I post, in a general fashion, is used by google for their commercial gain...agreement I signed on with notes such, or some such...facebook too...so, web providers have a rational for using my content, and do, albeit robotically...makes me feel a bit robotic...a shadow talking to shadows...oh...noted...well, and in the news is such...shading...brb...oh!...game on...on the radio...Angels and Cleveland...Calhoun with a hit!...lead off...infield hit...Upton up???...sure, give Upton more at bats...I ought not to be negative...negativity the bane of baseball players...permitted for the fans!...what's a boo horn for!?...but Trout is out with a wrist injury...3-2...called third strike...K...Ohtani up...0-1..."out of here!"...first home run on the road...10 on the season now...Angels 2-0...Pujols up...oh...shade wrong term...but related, as in casting shade...notion I had in mind is called 'shadow banning'...

quote

Shadow banning (also called stealth banning, ghost banning or comment ghosting[1]) is the act of blocking a user or their content from an online community such that it will not be readily apparent to the user that they have been banned.
... ... ...
United States President Donald Trump has alleged that Twitter employs the practice, and has threatened an investigation.[

from the very first the web has been full of shadows...ghosts...spooks...lol...anyway, it's not a big deal, unless one is trying to sell something...like red hats...:)...plenty of those look to be being purchased, but around about in the everyday, I don't see many...Simmons reached first, steals second...Fletcher up...anyway, anyway, so, yesterday, some more googe buttons went south, disabled...don't know if it is local or web wide...can't crowd source it...fly out...to bottom of 1st...and it's annoying, as it messes up my images searches...routine has been to put in a search, like 'moche artifacts', then, rather going to menu button on the bar, 'all', which is all there was once upon a time!, I go to 'images'...click on, and this opens pages that are the marvel of the age...when I see an image I want to see, a click on, and that opens a page with image big on the left, thumbnails of related pics in the lower left, upper right some text description from site where pic resides, and beneath the pic a log line and shortened web address, a button...clicking on these took one to the original page where the pic came from...a visit button did this too...but no more...they are still there, but disabled...oddly, my little icon at top of my tablet's screen...the double arrows indicating my connection to the web, my router, goes 'dark'...the two arrows greyed out...double over Young's head, run scores for Cleveland...the 'see more' button goes disabled too, but only after I click on the others...which is odd...so, upshot of this is my route to web sites from images is disabled...sorta...I can hand copy the name of the site from the info on the left, put it into the ulr slot window...and wala...I can get to the site...why has this happened?...getty photo service I gather...they are jealously guarding their photos from being copy/pasted...them, and maybe other image providers...folk do get annoyed if the web photos, the web content they post, gets copy/pasted...oh, the share icon button is disabled too...sharing is an odd facebook thing...it lifts, copy/pastes, content from one news feed to another...twitter does this too...don't tweet myself...apparently, twitter shares propagate to the point that thousands will show up for rallies and such...this, I guess, happens on face book too...guess, as I've never seen a rally share...or, since the 2016 election, seen much passed around things...it wasn't the Russians doing those things...it is what the big providers do to stir interest in their product...this from the early day of the web...it's an obscure thing...but there was an effort to set up a social media in Cuba, and manipulate it to effect politics in Cuba...

quote

US secretly created 'Cuban Twitter' to stir unrest and undermine government
USAid started ZunZuneo, a social network built on texts, in hope it could be used to organize 'smart mobs' to trigger Cuban spring

found that story checking to see if my abbreviation, OTI,  was connected to something ominous...a check of the uban dictionary is always in order!...anyway, there happens to be a government organization called OTI...it's kind of like the peace corp...it focuses on countries that are struggling to become democracies and tries to help them...zunzuneo seems a bit nefarious...

quote

Documents show the US government planned to build a subscriber base through "non-controversial content": news messages on soccer, music, and hurricane updates. Later when the network reached a critical mass of subscribers, perhaps hundreds of thousands, operators would introduce political content aimed at inspiring Cubans to organize "smart mobs" — mass gatherings called at a moment's notice that might trigger a Cuban spring, or, as one USAid document put it, "renegotiate the balance of power between the state and society."

reading that, one might think we were hoisted on our petard in 2016!...it gets worse...both the Republican and Democratic parties have international organizations like OTI...whole thing a bit like evangelical missionaries...some countries take exception to such...Angels made out...game moving along while I meander...bottom of 3rd, 4th?...

"Hoist with his own petard" is a phrase from a speech in William Shakespeare's play Hamlet that has since become proverbial on its own. The phrase's meaning is literally that the bomb-maker (a "petard" is a small explosive device) is blown up ("hoisted" off the ground) with his own bomb, and indicates an ironic reversal or poetic justice.

The less-formal feast name, the Feast of the Tail, is derived from the name of the animal's tail that typically was attached to the back of the pharaoh's garment in the early periods of Egyptian history. This tail might have been the vestige of a previous ceremonial robe made out of a complete animal skin.[

But besides giving the pharaoh the chance to publicly renew their power, Heb-Sed also gave the people of Egypt a chance to see just how fit and strong (and therefore capable of ruling the kingdom) their pharaoh actually was. And to do that, at the center of each Heb-Sed festival was a very odd event indeed.
Dressed in a short kilt, with the tail of a bull or some similar creature attached to the back of it, the pharaoh would be led out to a specially constructed running track in the grounds of one of their palaces or temples and, in front of an audience of dignitaries, would be made to run as quickly as possible around the track.

Mesopotamian divination was divination within the Mesopotamian period.
Perceptual elements utilized in the practice of a divinatory technique included the astronomical (stars and meteorites), weather and the calendar, the configuration of the earth and waterways and inhabited areas, the outward appearance of inanimate objects and also vegetation, elements stemming from the behavior and the birth of animals, especially humans.
Magic was used to counter a negative fate foretold by divination.[
... ... ...
Two types of divination existed in Mesopotamia, divine and human.[1] Mesopotamian diviners most often used a liver for divination, or else by observing the sky.[

trying to think of a word for all this, I arrived at 'stupefied'...sort of what my old out of date computer does to me, what with lag freezing pages all the time...but a drought would just drive everyone crazy...and the effect of events like these would have been noted by charlatans, and methods developed to 'stupefy' people...rituals, ceremonies, artifacts, pyramids, on and on...advertisement campaigns...Pharaoh running around assured everyone everything would be okay...the Nile would flood, the crops would be planted...top of 7th...Marte makes out...Breseno up pinch hitting...?...Young up...K...Calhoun up...0-2...Angels make out...to bottom of 7th...

The Moche civilization, which existed on the north coast of Peru during the Early Intermediate Period, was one of the most prolific potters in the world. The Moche were unique in not employing a potter’s wheel or kiln. Most of their pottery was created using two-piece molds.
... ... ...
Kirkpatrick describes them as, “kaleidoscopic upon first impression.” Further examination reveals patterns that express themes of sacrifice, ritual, combat and ceremony.
... ... ...
One of the earliest researchers to classify Moche ceramics into themes was Christopher Donnan. In 1975 he devised a, “thematic approach to deciphering one of the most complex scenes common in Moche art;”. in the “Presentation Theme” one figure is receiving something, such as a ritual token, tribute or gift, from another figure. He noted, for example, that a bird priest from a Presentation Theme could also appear by itself, in a sculpture. His studies led him to conclude that today’s scientists should place Moche images in many contexts rather than seeing them in one (Bourget 2006:5).

Donnan's (1976, 1978) work on Moche iconography established that at least the majority of Moche art (mostly pottery and some murals) could be considered as excerpts from a restricted series of basically religious scenes depicted in varying detail. He also maintained that even apparently secular depictions were actually extracted from larger religious scenes. Despite the importance of warfare to Moche conquest and expansion, he even argued that paintings of warfare represented something akin to Aztec "flower wars."
... ... ...

Hocquenghem went beyond Donnan by attempting to determine the number of "grand scenes"
... ... ...
Her descriptive conclusion was that all scenes of Mochica art may be regarded as excerpts from a total of 18 grand scenes.

The two-headed fox-snake as the litter-of-the-Sun is sometimes marked with a step-fret (Figure 14.13). The body of the two-headed fox-snake appears as a base on which seven deities and a dog are standing. The body is marked by a 52-unit step fret above, and the snake's belly is marked by 85 dots. An additional 13 dots appear on each leg, totaling 111. A similar figure without the step-fret serves as the image of the rainbow (Figure 14.14).

... ... ...
Figure 14.17. The other Moche "grand scene" involves anthropomorphized beans—a representation of races with beans carried by the racers (themselves sometimes anthropomorphized beans). Noble youths among the Incas raced from Anahuarque to Cuzco (f = -13.52°) as part of an initiation ritual at the time of the December solstice. Drawing by Sharon Hanna.
