Observations about the pelta as geometric motif
The pelta form used for repeat patterns is a purely geometric decoration (Fig. 1-2).
In spite of the term “pelta” and the apparent similarity to real Amazon shields, there is no clear link between the decoration and the weapon. Likewise, representations of pelta-shaped shields on Roman mosaics show no connection to the geometric pelta decoration.

and, and that's about it...the ancient motif makers were circle drawers...all they needed was a piece of string and a stick....K...to top of fifth...like a band of gypsies, they went from site to site, acquiring building contracts...such happens when one has a skill set!...that site is really neat...lots of "about" peltas...but, no mention of the Moche in Peru...Lord Sipan's headdress...so, soh, sorta my idea the motif was in the clip art book of the Circle Drawers...

Said R. Yudan Giria: "This is Honi the Circle Maker [of M. Ta. 3:9], the grandson of Honi the Circle Maker. Near the time of the destruction of the Temple, he went out to a mountain to his workers. Before he got there, it rained. He went into a cave. Once he sat down there he fell asleep. He remained sound asleep for seventy years, until the Temple was destroyed and it was rebuilt a second time. At the end of the seventy years he awoke from his sleep. He went out of the cave, and he saw a world completely changed. An area that had been planted with vineyards now produced olives, and an area planted with olives now produced grain. He asked the people of the district, "What do you hear in the world?" They said to him, "And don't you know what the news is?" He said to them, "No." They said to him, "Who are you?" He said to them, "Honi the Circle Maker." They said to him, "We heard that when he would go into the Temple courtyard, it would be illuminated." He went in and illuminated the place and recited the following verse of Scripture, "When the Lord restored the fortune of Zion, we were like those who dream" (Ps. 126:1)

As reported by archaeologist John Monson in the pages of BAR, the closest known parallel to the Temple of King Solomon is the ’Ain Dara temple in northern Syria. Nearly every aspect of the ’Ain Dara temple—its age, its size, its plan, its decoration—parallels the vivid description of the Temple of King Solomon in the Bible. In fact, Monson identified more than 30 architectural and decorative elements shared by the ’Ain Dara structure and the Jerusalem Temple described by the Biblical writers.
