The Little House Of Horrors

Notes: Game on...on the radio...Rangers and Angels...Fletcher blooped a hit with bases loaded for go ahead run...Angels 3-2...now its 4-2...and a liner caught saves Texas from disaster...Trout pitched around, another walk...anyway, one more house...actually, all these little Moche house models are curios...more I browse them in google images, the more familiar I become with the motifs...the Moche artists are very true to the story the houses tell...they are part of the sacrifice ritual story...the little canopies too...as I go from one to the next, I anticipate the next one will somehow explain it all...but it is all an enigma!...and it spans the 800 years or so of Moche culture...and versions of it are in cultures before and after...and throughout the Americas....so, what, like three thousand years of a singular enigma?...fuzzy captions on where it begins...watched a clip about the connection between the Maya and Toltecs...begins by pointing out that Teotihuacan is due West of Copan, and around 400 BC the Mayans at Copan began revering a ruler from the West...this clip for sometime!...lemmee go get the Little House of Horror, if I can find it again...it's gawdawful...maybe google took it down!...brb...Rangers made out...Pujols slaps a single to right...he's the only batter who hits to opposite field...on the ground...oh...this one is almost as good...

the little dots represent blood...so, some of these house have minimal motifs...some dots...blood...a shape like those chisels...those chisels...brb...



pic sourced a couple posts back...even the two bands, the two colors, are motifs...along with the crescent, the steps, the spout...even, if I remember right, that with water in them, these vessels whistle when tipped...



on this one, sourced before, the steps, now seen as offerings to the figure in the house, Figure A?, make 'sense'...in the sense the play with the motifs made sense to the Moche!...the steps, in one sense, must represent a food plant...they are everywhere together with other repeating motifs like the jars with the rope, and the maces...in general, an offering; in detail, a particular food; in theme, the naked prisoners with ropes around their necks, hands tied behind their backs...

come back to this one...the feline motif goes with the prisoner motif...often the two together...don't know but the gables then become puma ears!...and on que in my browse...



here's one with the ears and 'fan'. Sipan's top knot, which resembles the crescent knife in the sacrifice scene...oh...note the intertwined spirals on this one!...that's seen often on the kneeling warriors...

oh, the top of the jars has a plug...the mace head...I cant find the Little House of Horror one...between the gable/ears was a stretched out victim, and his blood was pouring down the roof...brb...one author captioned it...game is progressing...Angles 4-2...

In a museum, every artifact has an id number...ascension number?...often, they are annoying, some wonder has a number scribbled across it...I tried to google that id number at the Larco Museum, but no luck...a pic of the house is at Wiersema's paper...a pdf file...

got it!...used the snipping tool...the only woman, I think, in the ritual scene, is Figure C...but then I'm guessing...those could be anything...that bit about the step motif being a fence could be wrong...rather the steps, jars, fans, maces, in sequence, represent the parade of offerings to the figure in the house/canopy...fill that out for sometime!...oh, I can only take sitting on the upside down bucket looking at the screen so long!...Angels have a runner!...look in on the game...then leave off for today...the unsourced images were all taken from a goggle images page....search: moche architectural vessels...or some such...Angels made out...have stranded seven...Angels 4-2...oh...they walked the batter before Trout...La Stella?...and so, Texas chose to pitch to Trout, who had been walked twice...and, he wapped a home run!...Angels 6-2!...

Pyramid of Doom

Notes: Game on...on the radio...afternoon game...Rangers and Angels...Angels won last night!...went to game...Trout bobble head night...he received the Silver Slugger award for center field...I think he has like six  or seven of these...and, and he hit two home runs!...Angels 3-1...Angels lost the night before, Rangers 2-1...Donnan, the Moche archaeologist..."I like David Fletcher at the top of the order!"--Mark...me too...a hit by him...oh!...hits a double...two out...Trout up...and, they walk Trout...a hit by Fletcher last night was instrumental in getting the first run across...game was tied 1-1 for awhile until Trout's home run...Donnan is in another youtube clip called The Pyramid Of Doom...ball hit to warning track, but caught...oh...Angels 4-1...to top of seventh...refereed Special Olympics basketball game this morning...much fun...napped when I got home...in the beginning of the clip, Donnan narrates that for years archaeologists were puzzled by the paintings on the Moche pots...these the famous warrior scenes...more on these sometime...and the studies had noted three repeating figures...Figures A, B and C...sometimes archaeologists nickname things, like The Decapitator (maybe like our Grim Reaper)...but ABC were a mystery, until they found Lord Sipan, a lesser Lord near his grave, and Lady Cao...the costumes, jewelry and such, for these three were a match with A, Sipan, B, the Lord, C, Lady Cao...wala...A,B and C....this is like phenomenal luck...Sipan was found while looting was in progress...his location cued them to the other two tombs...which I've posted about before, last season...hit batter for Texas...now, I mentioned how Donnan's 1977 clip, see yesterdays post, established that Moche artifacts are turning out to be very exact duplicates of real things, events, rituals, buildings, people...noted was the recreation of the badminton game with atlatls from its depiction on pottery...the Temple of Doom clip doesn't come out and say it, but I find this a charming thought, the little house atop the model potteries, was a real house...and towards the middle of the clip, narrator, a Canadian archaeologist, goes on about a small temple or house...Pujols waps a homerun...Angels 5-1....I have to watch clip again to recall how that went...brb...oh!!!...the runs earlier were Trout's!...he hit a grand slam!!!...a long one...some kind of record for grand slam lengths at the Big A...brb...

well, I've lost it...but at about 20:20 in the clip, Bouget, the Canadian archaeologist, is going on about the mountain behind the Pyramid of the Moon...it appears to be the mountain with sacrifice victims being tossed from it in the Moche pottery...he has trouble pinning it down...but finds one suspect area, and thereabout find lots of skeletons...and I'm having trouble pinning down where he, or someone in one of these clips, says in one area the 'traffic' evidence indicates people were coming to one small area, one small temple--that house...I tracked the Step Fret Checkerboard House to the New York Natural History Museum...it is displayed next to a replica drawing on which are another sort of house pot, and the often seen canopies, all in one of the rituals...and, that is as much as I got on the Checkerboard House, for now...but the Step Fret Checkerboard, the crowstep, the Inca chacana, is on so many things in so many contexts, I have this wonder if its origin is this little house on top a tiered temple!...I dunno...Rangers up in top of ninth...Angles trying to finish this game...up...K...two outs...3-2...K...."Angels come away with a victory...you can put a halo over this one!"...

I was going to mention it...that in the clip, just before the house, is the warrior ritual drawing (replica from a pottery painting)...and in struggling to get the screen shot (menu box at start menu...enter 'snipping tool', then save, then use bloggers pic tool to get it from file)...in struggling, the two superimposed!...go figure!...anyway, this is really a great clip, and it goes over  the notion that Moche artifacts were taken from real life...one scene of a modern witch doctor with his kit, exactly matches a figurine...docs would carry a little carpet rolled up, along with their paraphernalia...narrator says there are like 100,000 thousand pots, but they depict only a dozen or so stories/vignettes...this like the ancient Greeks...lots of pots, but all around well known mythological stories and figures...narrator continues that this resembles Christian iconography...lots of characters in the story of Jesus, and seeing them as figurines, understanding them, like the manger scene, without the story, would be confusing...but there is just the one unifying story...all the ancient cultures, from small to large, seem to have done this...Calhoun waps a homerun bottom of first...Rangers 5-1...Trout up with infield hit...Boor up...Boor's getting a lot of playing time...in 1977 Moche things were only first found...I dunno...see clip!...in the related clips youtube offered on that search were some others...the animation of the warriors I've noted before...the Russians made some like that one, but they are all modernized, the original motifs lost, but still kind of cool...Angels like loaded the bases, then a DP...goofy game...began with some umpire dust up...I take note of these now having taken up umpiring!...

The Step Fret Checkerboard House

Notes: Game on...on the radio...Dodgers and Giants...Giants 3-2?...it's like the third inning...Angels lost to the Mariners last night, 2-1...the step fret motif has variations...I first came upon it seeing it on an Aztec warrior's shield...last season's post May, 27, 2019...from then to now, it has proliferated!...I first came upon the step motif, the checkerboard looking motif, which is a variant of the step fret, seeing it on an Inca warrior's tunic...in fact, the tunic of the royal guard...from there I found the Inca King's Tunic with it's tocapus, one of the tocapus being the warrior tunic...I'll just call it now: the step fret checkerboard...better known as the Inca Chacana...or Inca Cross...words can't bring these motifs to mind like pics can...so...brb...

fifth inning?...score's right, Giants 3-2...bottom of sixth...so, so, a lot I've posted about these motifs from then to now!...scholar with the paper about the architectural models, see previous posts, has the notion that the houses, with their motifs, represent what once were real houses, with real motifs...since the real houses were adobe, since eroded, this is hard to prove out...but over last twenty years or so, archaeologists have managed to find some remaining buildings that do indeed have the features of the models...and the motifs...and even the story being told by like the bean warriors on the Moche pottery...author notes the models now can be used to 'decode' what Moche culture was actually like...the models aren't generic, decorative, whimsical...they're real representation!...and as things would have it, they are covered with step frets, step fret checkerboards, step frets with the right triangle, double step frets with the equilateral triangle...this thought that they are 'real' can extend to the motifs on textiles, and motifs on pottery vessels and such...the Chinese say the individual faces on the Terra Cotta Army soldiers are depictions of real soldiers...this kind of connection is with the Moche models...I dunno...it might even be with the Moche portrait vessels...that for sometime!...but anyway, one can proceed thinking that Moche aritfacts have about them a real connection to things in real Moche life...or some such!!!...anyway, the Moche Step Fret Checkerboard House:...oh...wait...I found the 'stepping stone' after the house looking for the house...these posts are actually reviewed and mulled over much before I post them!...

the caption explains offerings are being delivered to a Lord, or god...sitting under the curious canopy...which may be the little house in another guise...this little house gives the 'the little shop of horrors' a run!...that in a day or two!...anyway, note the offerings!...they are like Disney animations of inanimate things, in this case, food plants I suspect...bowls and jars full of plant foods or juices walking about...the legs are one thing...but a close look, and two step frets with triangles and curls are in the tall jar(update5/3: nope...they are on the jar...jar and vessel are offerings; a caption I found)...that's on the left...way over on the right, are jars with ropes around their necks, with feet, some tipped over pouring juice, and on each of them is the step fret checkerboard...it's surreal...a wonder how I have come to this!...the checkerboards are tunics on stylized jar warriors doomed to sacrifice...sacrifices as offerings...the thing that cues this, is the rope...Moche iconography shows naked prisoners doomed to sacrifice as naked, bound, with a rope around their neck...about here I fold my arms, and say to myself, wth!...if I have this right, then what are the two step frets in the big jar?...I dunno...everything in this drawing decodes into real things...some no doubt...there's a stirrup vessel...off hand, I don't recall seeing a stirrup vessel in these bean warrior paintings...the things on top of the canopy are stylized maces...they often appear in rows, as does the step motif (one quarter of a chacana/checkerboard step fret)...I have a bit on that from the astronomer who wrote of these things...in a bit...somewhere a scholar has likely captioned each motif...when I find that, I'll re-visit!...for now, on to the house...double for the Dodgers...Dodgers 4-3...back to looking through the images on google...oh...wait again...here's another of the anticipated steps to tie into the house!

there was a show of these models that traveled around...probably somewhere there is a catalog, and in it a reference list of where these are, and captions...note the step fret checkerboard motif...these models have a heraldry like design...and here the checkerboard is in the place of the step frets...as in the first of these houses I posted, Lord Sipan's fan and step fret headdress were in the resgisters on the pottery vessel...model of a tiered temple...well, one more for now, the house with the crescent...oh, the author worked her paper into a book:

Notes: game on...on the radio...in like fifteen minutes...Angels and Mariners...Angels lost to the Mariners last night. 6-3...juggled batting order tonight...they're still in Arizona pre-season...they're opponents are up and running...at that scholar's page, see previous page, among the pics was one house stirrup vessel that has all the motifs...the step motif with right triangle, and the double step motif with the equilateral triangle...I made a reach and said the double step pottery vessel is two step motifs combined...for sometime. a long post with all these motifs in series!...see like last five posts for the progression....this little house pottery vessel is a marvel!...brb...

it looks to be a ramp leads up to like a patio...on the ramp's sides are step with right triangle motifs...then, where there the ramp reaches the top. there are three step with right triangle motifs, then there are three double step motifs with equalateral triangles...this is....something!...it's Pythagorean...my whimsy the Pythagoreans reached the new world...often it is noted the Great Pyramid in Egypt, an equalateral triangle, can be split into two right angle triangles...the Pythagorean Triangle...the Pythagorean Triangle is like the invention of the wheel...a 3, 4 ,5, triangle, key to so much...oddly, the Oop artifact Egyptian Schist Disk, while round like a wheel, is from before Egyptians knew of the wheel...I didn't know this...for sometime the invention of the wheel...in the Americas they didn't have the wheel, though found have been toys with wheels...I dunno...for sometime...for now, some long thoughts about this little house...there is more to it than the motifs...that canopy has my wonder!...has the game started?...Mark is reading out the lineup...I'm gonna leave off...I umped a game this afternoon...want to clean up at the gym I belong to, and gym has tv...maybe be able to watch the game...for tomorrowmorrow...oh, wait, Angels off tomorrow, Thursday!...another little pottery house, which too is a fit with the step frets...Cozart pops out...Trout bloop single...Simmons flys out...Pujols up...0-2...1-2...K...hmmph...

Step Motif Back To Back


Notes: Game on...on the radio...in about ten minutes...Angels and Mariners...So, I have it that Lord Sipan's headdress, the motifs, shows up in Moche archetectual pottery models...a curio is these pots have stirrup spouts, which, with some water in the pot, makes them whistle when they are tipped...for sometime the noise making pottery!...I looked for more pottery with motifs from headdresses and clothing, and unexpectedly, found a pot that exactly replicates a fence of sorts at one of the Moche mud brick temples...this pot side by side with the fence was for today...and, and, last night I found a scholar's paper that focuses on Moche archetectual model and how they represent buildings that once really existed...hard to prove, as the adobe has all eroded...but as the early Americans would have it, they would build over old buildings, so, there are pyramids within pyramids...and so, as digging through the eroded surfaces progresses, untouched wall decorations and reliefs are discovered...Trout first up...author found the pot that looks like the fence, and has noted it...and too the other house pots with the motifs...Trout hit by pitch...Boor up...fielder's choice gets Trout...a pause while I snack and move from tablet to computer...fly out...Trout was second up...Angels made out...to bottom of first...Angels playing like scrubs...single wild pitch walk...two on for Mariners...K...better...Pastrami sandwich from Angelo's...brought half home...pop out...microwaved pastrami...worse...Mariners 4-0...Mariners made out...top of second...Pujols hit, takes second on errant trhrow...Stella flies out...



this pic I snagged last season...steps, curl and triangle...side by side with the next pic, one can see how the potter glued two step frets like this into one...even to the point of making the right angle triangle into an equal lateral triangle...

That pdf has a variety pics....and author nails it down that the models are models of real buildings, and maybe specific buildings...the step motif she suggests is a real thing that made a fence too...sacred enclosures with fences....

Well, not only that, but the potters recorded the regalia...as did the weavers...thinking here of the tocapus of the Incas, which has a lot of lifted things from the Moche, notably the step motif/step frets.  The more of these motifs, with their vaired captions, the more I seem to find, and more mysterious they become!
