Remember the Panay/OTI/notes/12/12/37

Notes:...from "my usual subjects" I could be doing a post, a riff, or could add to the Panay Project, today being 12/12...aaand, I've taken to my bunk...gotta cold...of late things have the annoyance of going sideways...like, I broke a tooth, piece of salami wedged it, and went about to have it pulled but told my bloodpressure too high...I have to get a dispensation from my doctor, heardsaid the dentists...but I canceled my doctor over quarrel with receptionist about reaching him about my eliquis pill jumping from fifty to five hundred dollars-nurses are like paywalls!...on another front, the IRS is wanting $44,000 dollars, notice came last month, due six days from now...error they say on gift form...niece is working on it...gifting a house problematic...but, readsaid, the IRS is noticing the rightwing pundits, and since I've been noticing the rightwing pundits, the Black Wing Dragons!lol...a new one to me in news, Germany rounding up the Reichberger...a wonder is if IRS would mess with me for messing with THAT subject, the subject of the Panay Project...I cant think it thru...just a moment ago, walking to the trash I tripped-that moment of bewilderment of an unexpected fall...and took to my bunk...no harm done...but, figuritively, I'm afraid to get out of bed...coming home, something happened at an intersection, this last weekend, and I drove into a coned off area...it was dark and rainy, poor visibility...told to pull over, and then berated on and on, and on...like a coach getting my goat...threat after threat...I guess the officer's hyperbolic shouts were genuine-the concern for evidence disturbed on the pavement, but I dunno, traffic stops nowadays have a fishing expedition aspect-a turn signal out morphs...in superstious times a sense of calculating menace was everywhere...the Chinese have eased up on theirs, the Iranians not so much, the Russians have dropped all pretense, and since America has engaged them openly, I dunno...Sargon's all seeing eye...sooo, here's a wonder, (I have a long post about "wonder") back in WW1, the stalemate began to be broken by German blitz tactic...and same time about, the Russian human wave attack was successful on Eastern front-this in 2016...the Russians attacked with a million men...this is all in the youtube vlogs...dont feed the trolls...anyway, those incidents suggest victory goes to a bumrush...Genghis Kahn...but why even point this out...the pundits on the newscasts can, and cant...it's drip drip drip with drones and sniping and a tank here or there...a thought is it may not be possible to stage a banzai,  what with satellites...I dunno...Step Frets...I was looking at Southwest Petroglyphs, need to post, and on different rocks,  noted cornstalks growing out of little steps, crowsteps, and a wonder is if planting corn, each stalk had a mound...oh,  I can check this with the phone...brb...welp, not much...oh, there's alot...mesoamercan agriculture was genius...even in a garden one molds a mound and plants a seed...

Light: Wave or Particle

Rainbow Confederate Flag

Note:  I've gone on and on about, here and there, about the X as a motif...representing the solstices...just eyeballing the Rainbow X, the angle looks to be near that 23 degrees the Solstice X makes...23 degrees is about the tilt of the Earth's axis, which is responsible for so much!...I have this thing for angles...beyond me, what all chemical bond angles are, but I've noted before the bond of the water molecule is near 108 degrees...two hydrodgin, one oxygen...looks like Mickey Mouse...and that's not my comparison!...Disney makes it...anyway, for weeks now when I start up the computer, I see this reflection in the screen from the lamp in the living room...I've gone on before about the Confederate Flag being an X...aaand, before about the Rainbow Flags of the Andeans-Rainbow Tocapu...these weren't political musings...just coincidence these musings line up with Confederate Flags and Rainbow Flags in the news!...but I thought to copyright the Rainbow X, and heareby do so!...copyright David L. Sharpness...I'll have to search up if the image and name are taken...lol...anyway anyway, when I went to take a pic of the reflection, the camera flash made another one!...go figure....in the browse today, I happened on Lookin Glass Universe post about light, how it is both a wave and a particle, and the vlog post must have something to do with the Rainbow X...a guess is the LCD screen is scattering light like a prism...but I dunno!...report after I do some lookabouts...

Another Note: I only have 22, now 23, blog posts for this year, 2022!...hmmph...but I just did Inktober and Stradaeasel posts to facebook, 61 ink drawings...one each day...but I didn't post any notes to them..still to do!...usually I double post the challenge posts, at facebook, and here...and use to link them, as the notes were in the blog, but facebook skotched linking the blog, sooo...aaaand, then there's the ongoing youtube comment drops...like above to Looking Glass....all kinds of things, much political news replies to vlogs, other comments...too much for hereabout...or anywhere really!...hundreds of those!...when I post to facebook, it will give my friends a headsup...that little bell icon opens to a list of new likes, or if I have posted...it's capricious...youtube does the same with comments...and is more reliable, sorta....you make a comment, and viewers might see it...most likely not...but if a viewer clicks 'like', my youtube bell tells me...or, if they reply!...and if you click like, and/or reply, a commentor is notified just so too!...to understand all this one has to have gone and done it...it can be daunting...bit like fishing, and one has to be very wary of catfishers...being on guard about web things is must!...and now, recently, I follow a couple sub stacks...substack as a platform seems to roll together facebook and google and youtube...with some twitter too...and if you subscribe to a substack, it shows up in your email box...I foresaw this with my zine, Oranges, way back on old GEnie...Amazon now has something like this too, one can self publish a periodical, garner subscribers...this to go along with their self publishing of books...and self publishing is the web now, and the lastest, facebook, 'reels', which is a copy of tik tok and such...my google browses are filling up with these short clickbait clips!...too too much....things is, I took hundreds of such video shorts of the Fauna of Yosemite...and of course the whole Tree in the Door blogs are full of them...a sometime has always been to fill out the Tree in the Doors...I have most everything saved on drives...out of sight out of mind like old photo albums...bags of snapshots too,,,taken just before the switch from celluloid to digital!...a what to do what to do with so many things to do!...time to feed Maya, my Dog, then watch Andor-new episode Wednesday...

Reality ( a re-post with new notes)

The Falls were a trickle,
The Creek but a nickel,
A few pennies left for mercy.

"Have you wondered
If reality is a purchase?" mused Carroll.

"That awakens a somnolent Savior
Beside the road in rags and poverty?" asked Twain.

"Just so." said Carroll.

A Fall day beneath the Dodona Oak,
The Homeridae seated, considered,
Thought long,
And one by one put their palms to the ground,
Not one knuckled and fisted.
Unanimous they were,
Unified as reality.

"Reality it is then!" said Carroll
And a rabbit with a pocket watch ran by...

Note:  the coins are water...Yosemite Falls, Yosemite Creek, "mercy" the Merced River which runs through Yosemite Valley...the confluence of the Creek with the Merced is my "axis Mundi"...oh. I may never go back...I kinda banished myself for becoming a Yosemite dilettante...sigh..."welp" is the laconic ironic pessimistic slang version of "well"...welp, they slipped and fell...Twain is Mark Twain, Carroll is Lewis Carroll...I've gathered together my favorite "authors in eternity -Blake" and put them under the ancient oracular Dodona Oak Grove...there they chat....much as we have!...aaand, I went a step further and put my favorite authors, artists, and such, aboard my Black Ships, as crews...their adventures told in the Black Deck, and Black Deck Tales-a medley, a mashup...my megalomaniacal itch will be scratched when I can write, produce, direct, a real life play!...Pinocchio would be so lucky...anyway, there, under the Oaks, are the Homeridae, storytellers of the usual sort, vagabonds, the blind, the crippled, outliers and castoffs...the wanted by the law!-welp, Shakira, we'll miss you...."Savior" should be changed to "vagabond"...too sharp an edge, but then...the "palms to the ground" is one of  Buddha's "gestures"...actually it's his foot he stomps, and defeats the last great demon in the last great battle, or some such...I found Jim Morrison at the Pyramid of the Moon in Mexico, photo of him reaching out to touch the stone feathered serpent, Quetzalcoatl...he was a bit of a poser...Homeridae come in Pied Piper varieties...

quote

In the mid-19th century, a 16th-century[citation needed] Aztec statue of Xochipilli was unearthed on the side of the volcano Popocatépetl near Tlalmanalco. The statue is of a single figure seated upon a temple-like base. Both the statue and the base upon which it sits are covered in carvings of sacred and psychoactive organisms including mushrooms (Psilocybe aztecorum), tobacco (Nicotiana tabacum), Ololiúqui (Turbina corymbosa), sinicuichi (Heimia salicifolia), possibly cacahuaxochitl (Quararibea funebris), and one unidentified flower.

"The texts always use the flower in an entirely spiritual sense, and the aim of the religious colleges was to cause the flower of the body to bloom: This flower can be no other than the soul. The association of the flower with the sun is also evident. One of the hieroglyphs for the sun is a four-petalled flower, and the feasts of the ninth month, dedicated to Huitzilopochtliupo, were entirely given over to flower offerings."

- Paul Pettennude, Ph.D.[full citation needed]

The figure himself sits on the base, head tilted up, eyes open, jaw tensed, with his mouth half open and his arms opened to the heavens. The statue is currently housed in the Aztec hall of the Museo Nacional de Antropología in Mexico City.[

Greek Meander

quote

The French scholar, Roland Fréart, sieur de Chambray, undoubtedly became acquainted with the complex Greek meander during his 1630s sojourn in Rome, during which he studied architecture. Direct familiarity, however, was achieved when he translated Palladio’s Quattro Libri into French, published in 1650. That same year, Fréart published his famous Parallèle de l’Architecture antique et de la moderne in which he illustrated the page of frets shown here. The fret from the Temple of Mars Ultor soffit is seen in the center left. John Evelyn published an English translation of the Parallèle in 1664 from which Fréart’s commentary on the frets is here quoted: I have made a very curious and rare Collection of a certain Ornament which they call Fret, and of which the Antients [sic] made great use. . . . The Ornament consists in a certain interlacing of two Lists or small Fillets, which run always in parallel distances equal to their breadth, with this necessary condition, that at every return and intersection they do always fall into right angles; this is so indispensable that they have no grace without it.[vi]

Snake Island

Sophocles Ajax, R. C. Trevelyan,

The Complete Greek Drama (Two Volumes)

Heralds

Marriage of Medea and Achilles

Suibne

quotes

In the Iliad, Ajax is notable for his abundant strength and courage, seen particularly in two fights with Hector. In Book 7, Ajax is chosen by lot to meet Hector in a duel which lasts most of a whole day. Ajax at first gets the better of the encounter, wounding Hector with his spear and knocking him down with a large stone,[7] but Hector battles on until the heralds, acting at the direction of Zeus, call a draw, with the two combatants exchanging gifts, Ajax giving Hector a purple sash and Hector giving Ajax his sharp sword.

Ovid's Heroides are literary fantasies that offer should-have-been correspondence between partners such as Dido and Aeneas or Acontius and Cydippe, a letter from Penelope to Odysseus or Sappho to Phaon. Invented correspondence between Medea and Achilles would have been a precious conceit by the Roman master of erotic poetry. Maybe the practical side of Ovid's realism intervened: Medea, after all, has got to be a neat generation older than Achilles. Achilles is the offspring of a union formed during the voyage of the Argo, when the ship and crew were on their way to Colchis. Medea is going to be at least 15 years older than Achilles. ... Details, details. Maybe somebody needs to write this poem: a pair of epistles ala Ovid's Heroides between Achilles and Medea.

According to some accounts, he had married Medea in life, so that after both their deaths they were united in the Elysian Fields of Hades – as Hera promised Thetis in ApolloniusArgonautica (3rd century BC).
...
Achilles' armour was the object of a feud between Odysseus and Telamonian Ajax (Ajax the greater). They competed for it by giving speeches on why they were the bravest after Achilles to their Trojan prisoners, who, after considering both men's presentations, decided Odysseus was more deserving of the armour. Furious, Ajax cursed Odysseus, which earned him the ire of Athena, who temporarily made Ajax so mad with grief and anguish that he began killing sheep, thinking them his comrades. After a while, when Athena lifted his madness and Ajax realized that he had actually been killing sheep, he was so ashamed that he committed suicide. Odysseus eventually gave the armour to Neoptolemus, the son of Achilles. When Odysseus encounters the shade of Ajax much later in the House of Hades (Odyssey 11.543–566), Ajax is still so angry about the outcome of the competition that he refuses to speak to Odysseus.

The island was named by the Greeks Leuke (GreekΛευκή, "White Island") and was similarly known by Romans as Alba, probably because of the white marble formations that can be found on the isle. According to Dionysius Periegetes, it was called Leuke, because the serpents there were white.[12] According to Arrian, it was called Leuke due to its color.[13] He and Stephanus of Byzantium mentioned that the island was also referred to as the Island of Achilles (GreekἈχιλλέως νῆσος[13] and Ἀχίλλεια νῆσος[14]).

The island was sacred to the hero Achilles and had a temple of the hero with a statue inside.[15] Solinus wrote that on the island there was a sacred shrine.[16] According to Arrian in the temple there were many offerings to Achilles and Patroclus.[13] Furthermore, people came to the island and sacrificed or set animals free in honour of Achilles.[17] He also added that people said that Achilles and Patroclus appeared in front of them as hallucinations or in their dreams while they were approaching the coast of the island or sailing a short distance from it.[18] Pliny the Elder wrote that the tomb of the hero was on the island.[19]

...

According to a surviving epitome of the lost Trojan War epic of Arctinus of Miletus, the remains of Achilles and Patroclus were brought to this island by Thetis, to be put in a sanctuary, furnishing the aition, or founding myth of the Hellenic cult of Achilles centred here. According to another myth Thetis gave the island to Achilles and let him live there.[13] The oracle of Delphi sent Leonymus (other writers called him Autoleon[22]) to the Island, telling him that there Ajax the Great would appear to him and cure his wound.[23] Leonymus said that on the island he saw Achilles, Ajax the Great, Ajax the LesserPatroclusAntilochus and Helen. In addition, Helen told him to go to Stesichorus at Himera and tell him that the loss of his sight was caused by her wrath.[24] Pomponius Mela wrote that Achilles was buried there.[25]

Buile Shuibhne or Buile Suibne[a] (Irish pronunciation: [ˈbˠɪlʲə ˈhɪvʲnʲə]The Madness of Suibhne or Suibhne's Frenzy) is a medieval Irish tale about Suibhne mac Colmáin, king of the Dál nAraidi, who was driven insane by the curse of Saint Rónán Finn. The insanity makes Suibhne leave the Battle of Mag Rath and begin a life of wandering (which earns him the nickname Suibne Geilt or "Suibhne the Madman"). He dies under the refuge of St. Moling.

Labyrinth Mesoamerica

Labyrinths do, of course, occur in nature and must surely have inspired humans to create labyrinthine symbols. The Greek word for the Nautilus shell, for example, is laburinthoi.

...

And finally, we find the labyrinth-like meander design featured in Mesoamerican art and architecture. For example, the xicalcoliuhqui, known as a “step” or “stepped” fret—greca in Spanish—is a common motif in Mesoamerican art (pic 5). It consists of three or more steps connected to a hook or spiral. The motif appears on temples and other sacred buildings such as the Pyramid of the Niches at the Veracruz site of El Tajin.

Try to do this experiment yourself:

I typed "pizza" into Google. 916 million results. That's a lot of results, but the internet is big, so it could be true, right?

So I started clicking on "next page". There's 10 links per page, so with 916 million results, there should be 9.2 million pages to click through.

However, someting weird happened. When I reached page 22, that was the end. After 215 links, I reached the end of Google. And at the top, the text changed. It no longer said it has almost a billion results, it just said "215 results".

On the last page, I was getting random news articles that only used the word "pizza" once, or links to sites of random Romanian pizzerias. Does Google, which is so often praised because of its fantastic algorithm, really only have 200 results more relevant to me than a random Romanian pizzeria? (I don't live in Romania or anywhere near it.)

I did some more experiments with different search terms, and I never managed to get past 300.

Why is this? What happened to the other billion or so results, and what are the implications of this?
