5 Recent evidence suggests that Nasca polychrome ceramics were manufactured in restricted locations during the early Nasca phases. These wares were likely to have been manufactured at Cahuachi and redistributed to other locations (Vaughn and Neff 2000; Vaughn et al. 2006). Religious specialists, according to Vaughn and Neff (2000), were active in pottery manufacture. If this is the case, then the consistency and regularity in Nasca iconography could be explained by its centralized production and limited number of artists/priests involved in the creation of these vessels.
MORE THAN MEETS THE EYE: A STUDY OF TWO NASCA MOTIFS ANA NIEVES Northeastern Illinois University ANA NIEVES Northeastern Illinois University
In this study I focus primarily on the eyeshaped navel on the Anthropomorphic Mythical Being as it is depicted in Phases 3, 4, and 5 of the Nasca sequence, and on a related arrangement I am calling the Corn Configuration.
The identification of the navel as an eye is made here based on its appearance. It is usually lens shaped, although there are examples of circular eye-shaped navels. The interior of this shape is always white, outlined with a dark contour, and has a dark dot (pupil) in the center. When this eye-shape navel is lens shaped, the pointed ends are aligned to one of the dark stripes that run along the torso of the AMB. Although there are several ways that Nasca artists represented eyes, especially to differentiate between the eyes of trophy heads and those of mythical beings, there is a connection made by Nasca artists between the AMB’s own eyes and its eye-shaped navel as they usually have the same shape within a single cup (see Figures 1a, 2, and 4, for example).

.I found the book searching : Nasca tongue ceramics, or some such...a lot of different stuff is attached to the tongues, which can be very long...and found myself educated about "hair hanks"...along with trophy heads there are trophy bodies, stylized outstretched like so many entrails, with little tuffs of hair...bespeaks of the Aztecs depicting severed limbs showing the wound with dots, and protruding bones

Notes: Game on...on the radio...Angels at Astros...Astros 3-Angels 1...runners on second and third...Detmers pitching...bottom of second...Verlander, Doom, pitching for Astros...he came back from Mets...W...bases loaded...no one out...Astros 5-Angels 1...top of third...one out...Wallach with a triple!...Regnifo up...thought is the pattern the weavers are making is on the stirrup vessels too...each pattern, one vase, one textile-the same...seated as the weavers are, in a circle, it's like they are somewhere working together...if these were Inca weavers, I'd say they were in the King's palace, kept there for weaving royal textiles...they're Moche, but likely the same...and they must have been like a guild...like the soapstone guild on Catalina Island...crafts became exclusive, craftsman commanding respect, and keeping to themselves so as not to lose the value of what they know...my "Pythagoreans"...secret schools...gone on and on about these in older posts...Graves hints at them in the White Goddess...priestly class...another, is the Homeridae, Homer's storytellers...the oral tradition guarded and maintained over generations...the Nasca pottery phases suggests they were made by a guild, probably in the same location...Angels got a run...Astros 5-Angels 2...bottom of third...no sooner I sit down to the computer on the porch, than Maya's fleas, and the tiny mosquitos eat me!...home run...Astros 7-Angels 2...Singleton of the Astros with back to back homers...Floreros!!!...I thought the scenes are on a plate, but readsaid, they are on the rim of a vessel, "flared rim bowls", and there looks to be a lot of them, with different scenes!!!...a find....search: Moche flared rim bowls...for sometime...Detmers relieved...reliever gives up a double, and hit batter...and a walk...Rosenberg the reliever...bases loaded...Angels need my luck in finding stuff, for finding runs!...my lucky find last night was Nasca naval motif...so many things in this paper...Nieves surrounds a simple observation, the naval on Nasca figures looks like a lozenge eye, which looks like a seed...and because the eyes in Nasca faces are the same, they bespeak of seeds too...it gets worse...seeds make stems, the naval connects to the umbilical chord, thru stems and chords nourishment passes...this stem/chord notion connects to root systems, those to irrigation systems, those to our blood artery/vein system, aand all that is expressed to the stretched out figures I've noted before...they look, how'd I put it...brb...Maldonado "loves" his old team!...with a 173 average, he has three hits in three innings!...he did this self same thing in a previous Astro/Angels game...he's a great catcher, after the trade to the Astros for him, they go to the World Series like every year...he's they're Posey, but without the hitting, most of the time!...I wasn't wrong to think the 'hair hank entrails" were being depicted, Nieves notes the Nasca loved puns, visual puns, contour rivalry, and what I'm seeing as guts and such, can be seen another way as irrigation, the elaborate irrigation systems of the Andeans...it's a marvel, I've noted it before, a reach trying to compare it with the Sumerian depictions of The Tree of Life...that looks like a Tree, a Palm Tree, aand, to my eyes, a stylized irrigation system,...and that's what these stretched out figures connected with a tongue are, streams cascading down from the Andes to the coastal fields, the tongue is water streaming, or blood...Ohtani with a hit...two on for Angels in top of sixth...Verlander still pitching...this is probably what the step fret triangle represents: water falls, the fret; falling down the Andes, the steps...I just dunno what the triangle is...but this elaboration of the naval by Nieves gives one hope there is, somewhere in the welter, an opinion of what the triangle is!...oh, the Astros 10-Angels 3...in the works, for sometimes, has been a post about symbolism, and Nieves has it (no, Doyon)!...she notes that water streaming in Western art is realistic, but not necessarily any "truer" than the Nasca symbolic river!....she does a side by side with a Leonardo drawing of water, and the Nasca symbolism...somewhere, I have a little poem lamenting perspective in art, expressing a desire to draw things a little crooked, out of plum, like the House of Mysteries in the Redwood forests!...oh, wait...the Irrigation bit is in another paper, book!, found by reading about the naval motif...I have it bookmarked....brb...top of seventh...Astros 10, Angels 3...search: water blood semen Nasca art...found what I found last night...I was using "signifier" as a search term, which turned up these things...anyway, Doyon has the irrigation, blood notion, throw in semen...and in this chapter linked is the bit about Leonardo, and symbolism of Western art and AmerIndian art...I think the game has gotten to the top of ninth...I'll revisit this post tomorrowmorrow!...oh, bottom of eighth, bases loaded...why not...swing away Houston!...Astros 11-Angels 3...Doyon has it the 'hanks" are "barbs" and symbolize the furthest channels in the irrigation notion, or some such...Dyon has the mountain rivers Leonardo bit...my notes need a close read of Nieves and Dyon...curious what they do by focusing on single, or just two, motifs...familiar somehow...lol...oh, I'm standing in Bobcat Meadow, Half Dome to my right, Yosemite Falls before me...Astros 11, Angels 3...seeds are navals are eyes connected with stems, umbilical chord...our senses are umbilical chords, root systems, rivers and streams, connected like the Redwoods with their roots...I can do this stuff too!...lol...time to feed the critters...
