#Newgrange

At the Laundry:...Dogers and Angels won yesterday...three quarters in the drier start...Newgrange famous for the three spirals...Robert Graves famous for his book White Goddess...aand it has a chapter on Newgrange, A Visit to the Spiral Castle...happened there searching "spirals" in its index...did that thinking, wondering, if Graves ever focused on phylotaxes and such...nuts and bolts not his thing...if it wasn't grand, or someone, ...chapter is an antiquarian going on about Ireland's equivelant of the Great Pyramid...they're not sophisticated, these monuments, I want to say, but the antiquarians make them so..."newgrange unsophisticated"...bbk...

✨️Newgrange, a 5,000-year-old passage tomb in Ireland, is often described as a sophisticated feat of engineering rather than "unsophisticated". Built around 3200 BCE, it predates Stonehenge and the Egyptian pyramids, showcasing advanced understanding of astronomy and construction.

🎶showcasing for generations of showboats...hmmph...one of the border stones has the spirals aaand the fishnet lattice...aaand, that's about it, spirals, chevrons, nets, and spirals...what to make of it, sophisticate it!?..."3D spirals lattice fibonnaci"

✨️3D Fibonacci spirals and lattices are mathematical, botanical, and artistic representations of the Golden Ratio (

) in three-dimensional space. They are frequently used to model natural growth patterns (phyllotaxis), such as the arrangement of seeds in a sunflower or florets in a pinecone, which optimize space and sunlight exposure.

Newgrange Through the Ages | Boyne Valley Passage Tomb
Newgrange, a 5,000-year-old Neolithic passage tomb in Ireland, features intricate carvings including spirals, diamonds, and vegetal patterns that resemble phyllotaxis—the arrangement of leaves on a plant stem or scales on a cone. These Neolithic rock art carvings, found on entrance stones and inside the chamber, reflect the complex artistic and natural observations of their creators.
Key Aspects of Newgrange Art and Imagery:
  • Phyllotaxis-like Patterns: Specific engravings, such as the "fern leaf" motif on stone C4, have been described as resembling plant life, potentially representing stylized nature.
  • Spiral Motifs: The most famous carving is the Triple Spiral (triskelion) located in the inner chamber, alongside numerous spirals on the entrance curbstones.
  • Other Geometric Art: The carvings also include zigzags, lozenges, and radial lines, indicating a, consistent decorative system.
  • Symbolism: While the exact meaning is unknown, the carvings are believed to represent celestial events, solar journeys, or cycles of life, particularly highlighted during the winter solstice alignment.
  • Context: The art is often deeply carved, highlighting skill and planning, and is directly linked to the structural alignment of the tomb, which fills with light during the winter solstice.
The carvings are part of a larger tradition of Neolithic art in the Boyne Valley area, including the nearby site of Knowth
