To the Post Office and back...

Lost Antleers
Woke up early..but went back to sleep...
and then woke up too late!...almost noon...had snack...chocolate croissants are addictive!...and walked over to the Post Office...on the way were four Bucks...three that had lost their antleers...I would have thought the three were Does if not for a delivery driver, with a four hour layover, who explained how the one's ear was down because it was smarting from losing antleers...explained too how the Bucks have a scent gland behind their back leg knees...or on their knees!...I've drawn their skeletons and the leg bones are differently arranged than ours!..cant picture right now how they work!...anyway..we had a nice critter story exchange as he looks for them on his breaks...lot of the drivers that bring people and things too the Valley have layovers..and are very knowledgeable...further along on the walk at Chapel Bridge I talked to another one who has a degree in Zoology...and was a Park Ranger...I'd known this...but forgot...and didn't put it together with my need for critter identifications...so I told him I'd be bringing by my mystery critters!....and right after that I talked with another photog who has been coming to the Valley for years and has pics of some of the Cabins during the Flood out in the backyard...Owl Woods....if and when I can get his permission I'll link or post one here...in fact a link to here from over there...the other Valley blogs...might be sufficient to acquire it!...this to say he's visited those..and maybe here too!...I must say I've never spoken to anyone in real time who has maybe read my postings...and this over a period of twenty years!...people are shy about their blogs and posts...it's....it's like our super hero alter egos...you know..clark kent at Last Chance to Adams or Rowel out and about with the camera!..and that's just this blog....after the big loop...and pics and clips of Ravens over by Swinging Bridge I had late lunch...got back to the Cabin...and just sorta gave up for the day!...it's hard to keep caught up with everything...it's cold...and still cloudy after yesterday's rainsnow...maybe tomorrow it will be sunny and warmer...

Winter Creek
It snowrained...rainsnowed...most all day....
But I did slog down to the Creek...and took some pics...then went back to Cabin and curled up for sleep before work!
It's been that kinda weather...thought I heard Hawk outside while dressing for work...single Hawk like call repeated...not sure what it was as it was gone when I got outside...Wild Thing is back at Last Chance...

Grey Squirrel in Branches
I walked over to the Post Office and back...very cold... and last night it must have rained some as the new snow is gone...and even more of the old!...which is too bad as I though to ski about Monday...Squirrel was up in Pine at Post Office...first time I focused a glob of snow fell right on my head and the camera...much to the amusement of the tourists..and me too...didn't hurt the camera...and I got clips and pic of Squirrel...just on a higher up branch after Squirrel bolted...being startled by the laughter!...
One of the photogs under the umbrella yesterday was right outside taking pics of the Falls from the spot where everyone does... this morning...and I tried to send off that pic to his email...which I had trouble reading...
It was icy walk all the way...but tonight it's raining everything is slushy...have to wait and see what things are like in the morning.
There's...well here...rain...and snow...and something that can be called rainsnow!

Muirglorius
Snow that would stick to the ground began falling at daybreak...and it snowed pretty much to sunset...for the walk I went out to Chapel Footbridge...see clip!...and then over to the Oak Grove...lots of photogs about...got a pic of two with umbrellas out in Cook's...
I have a collection of photog pics!...the broken off Oak I call Owl Oak...there was a bowl in the missing part where Owl would sit...it might regenerate...there's one like it nearby that has...the Oaks break easy...Oak Grove is the other pic...the screen cylinders protect the baby oaks....this Grove is my destination pretty much until the snow isn't so difficult to cross down to the Creek!...all this is by the Road on the Bike Path to the Village...the route I..and everyone!... walk often...try for some early morning pics tomorrow!...more snow on the way...I tried to think of adjective..it's a muirglorious winter!...I need to find a Deer Mouse trap that'll catch 'm alive....and relocate Deer Mousy far away!!...the incessant chewing...

Chubby
Cold and grey overcast this morning...and I thought just to curl up in the bunk after breakfast...but wondered what the critters would be up to in such grizzly weather...so off to Post Office and happened on the Paparazzi and Bobcat at the Oak Grove....
thought to put up clip but tourists are in it...and without them the clip loses it's character...I pan from the Bobcat to about thirty tourists...mostly YI kids...at the path railing looking out at Bobcat..some of the photogs had huge lenses...like the one sports photogs use..what cued me to Bobcat was seeing them set up in a hurry from their parked car....
Squirlel hopped down on their back and escaped!...report Bear last night had dust up with Skunk at Last Chance...snowed most all afternoon into dusk...but only an inch or so stuck.
Dont know but there is some kinda special art/literature catagory for pics, clips and accounts of how they were taken!...this from perusing other blogs!...magazines... and Ansel Adam's books too!

Band-tailed Pidgeon
Walked over to the Post Office...at Owl's Oaks...the Oak Grove across the road from the Elm and Cook's...lots of Jays and Woodpeckers...and back...Robins!...and back too...I think...the Band-tailed Pidgeons!....I think I have Pidgeon pic from last Spring with the 3x...have to check...tough to get pics of the Pidgeons...they're a little shy...and tourists were back and forth on the path...walked back with a detour through Cook's...sat at Sentinel stop awhile...tired!...and a friend drove by and we went to Last Chance for late lunch..cloudy and raindrops made me pick up
wonder when the Robins will begin singing in the morning...
before going out in the evening...doesn't seem cold enough for snow...but rain is on the way.
Dirty Jobs is on..the bridge episode when he walks up the Suspension Bridge Cables...they do this with two caribiners attached to tethers from a harness...each time they come to a stantion they clip on a carbiner...and unclip the one from the previous section....this climb is very like the climb up Half Dome...and while a safety system like that would work...I doubt if it would be ever be used!...Half Dome is pretty much the way it has been and always will be...the clamber up it on the cables...but I thought to mention this...

Moon Over Sentinel
Moon pics are tough...just hope for one good one!...this one courtesy of the boulder in the road...which isn't being used because of it...and a view spot of Sentinel that brings photogs to set up in the road inspite of the traffic...was quiet...the road still snow covered...the Moon was climbing over Sentinel when I was on my way back from El Cap where I tried for the Horsetail Firefall again...but the coming storm clouds made everything silver...and the Falls in the wind like a horse's mane....
Chicadee was from earlier and the walk to Post Office...they were right behind the cabin...the YIs were out doing science on Lodgepole Point...and I snowshoed to Creek's End and along the Merced and finally to El Cap...a long trudge!...came back on the road again..full Moon lit everything up...shadows from the trees across the road...a wonder that it is quiet...usually this trail is car noisy....a fine day...cool...getting colder tonight!

Rock pic is from the evening out to El Cap...this is the rock that's...well..in the way!...no walkabout today...slept in!...the holday crowd wore me out!...but did take a clip of Blue Jay on way to breakfast...sunny and blue...and hopefully tomorrow too...maybe give Horsetail another try!...storm said to be coming Teusday.

Montain Lion?....Bobcat....
At the very end of a short walkabout...out to Cook's via Lower Falls and the Chapel Footbridge and Lodgepole Point and back...and after only seeing knats...which began to show yesterday!...I saw Bobcat slip between the parked cars across from Tree in the Door...and off I went!...could never get around in front or close enough for a good pic...and I think this is Chubby...the chubby Bobcat...thought for a bit Chubby would walk right by the windows of Last Chance!....great fun...and the Ravens being upset...Bobcat does that!...sunny and cool and blue. Oh...report Bobcat snatched a Raccoon on the roof of Last Chance last night...

Buck Ears
The pic for tonight was going to be my cabin mate....Deer Mouse....got a flash pic last night of Deer Mouse jumping out of the paper grocery bag...but in my morning delete before the walkabout...I forgot...what's funny is that Deer Mouse was in the bag...all I had to do was fold it shut...and I could have taken Deer Mouse to Happy Isles to join Spotted Skunk!!...or somewhere...but wanted the pic!..oh well....walked over to the Post Office and on the way back I hopped off the Bus when I saw Buck and Doe across from Cook's...I'm getting a little critter desperate...report of Bobcat..the small one...at Rooms for Rent...again...sunny and blue and warm this morning...tonight things are all frozen again.

Windy Morning
I was in Mariposa for last night...after dentist...and this morning...early...waiting for bus and Humming Bird showed up...pic.taken with the 3x...slept on the bus waiting at the road work...and so awake enough to take a walkabout to the Post Office...started by snowshoeing to Creek's End...it was really cold last night...Bridal Viel was all frosty...and this after I comment on the balmy night before!...and it was windy this morning....tossing the Falls about...sometimes right back over the top!...I took a lot of clips and pics...each clip is different...sometime the wind blows the Falls to the left..then right..then just sort of shreds them...the 12x does some great things!...tourists talking and walking made me grumpy as I wanted to record the wind and the Falls sound...but what can one do!!?...sunny and blue and very cold...saw Coyote from the bus out in Cook's...and Bobcat report over in Siberia...

Horsetail
Well...I made it out to El Cap...Horsetail Falls isn't quite yet doing it's firefall thing...still very pretty...had to wait awhile but I got there about the right time on the cross country skis...earlier I walked to the Post Office...got back an enlargement of Little Coop...Martin I mean...very cool...Bobcat strolled by Last Chance...when I wasn't there of course...didn't see much all day...in fact just about nothing at all!...thought I heard a frog...and thought I saw a dread mosquito!...sunny and tonight well above freezing...very pretty starry night with half moon...walked to Village and back for dinner....tomorrow the dentist again...blue sky.

Blue Jay and Branches
Well, I got a cryptic comment before I could do the log!...what happens is I upload pics and clips with the desktop...which has the memory for same...and then I take to my bunk...turn the TV on...and write the log on the laptop...I always get a stiff back sitting at the desk...
Anyway...went to the Post Office...and took this one pic...actually two..as the other is blurry...thought this one would be too...but it came out...and I like it!..Chubby Bobcat reported over at the Post Office by friend with a giant and expensive camera they couldn't get out of the car trunk in time!...I didn't see much on my walk today and rode the bus back...sunny and blue and cold.

Icebergs
Went to the Village to vote...and the Post Office...and made the long walkabout along the bike paths...met up with a photog friend...with the giant camera!...and walked...best we could through the snow!...to Creek's End and across over to Cook's...talked of Bobcats and Hawks and Owls...but didn't see much...thought I heard Hawk....sunny with some clouds. Blackbirds I've kinda neglected...they're always about...Squirrel was by the Creek...and the Icebergs at the Creek footbridge....

Two Clowns
Went to the Post Office in the morning....had breakfast and was doing the laundry...and just went for the walk on the bikepath...too tough to get around the meadows because of the snow!....made the big loop to Swinging Bridge...along the road to the Chapel...and across Cook's to the Village Road and back to Lower Falls...took postcard pics and this clip of the two Acorn Woodpeckers...
after late lunch I put on the cross country skis and made it to Creek's End...the snow is firmer today...but still tough going...went out along the Merced...got some pics of little birds...and the mystery Duck again at Ozone Sands...light was fading...and was tired...so called it a day...had dinner at Curry and saw a Raccoon on the Happy Isle loop...clouded up in the evening...think I got a distant pic of Robin out in Cook's...and small Blue Birds by Half Stump Island...and a Yellow Rump...saw Junco, Ouzel, and the Singing Sparrow...I think that's what the Ferocious Bird was called!...Blue Jays and Ravens about...oh..and a nice Grey Squirrel pic and clip...same place that I got the Woodpeckers..across Road from Cook's....Coyote Tracks here and there and a Bobcat report over in Village.

Mystery Duck
I managed...with some struggle!...to get to Creek's End on the cross country skis...snow was really deep!...snowshoes were useless!...and Duck was out in the Merced...little black speck beside the ice in the one pic...
I dont know what kind it is...checked the book...and not sure if it's the one seen before...that pic repeated to compare...I was out and about for almost two hours...got back around ten and went to sleep before work...I'm still tired tonight...it was a lotta work!...Bobcat sighting over at the Wreckage....and too in the Village...clear tonight and next days said to be clear...but what a great snow storm!!...last pic is Creek's End.

Rocky Raccoon
It was gonna be Blue Jay again today...until stopping after work at the snack machine and Rocky showed up....hurried home and got the camera and took some snaps...pretty cool Raccoon and likes to talk at the snack machine!....made a short walk out to Cook's where I sat at the footbridge...and watched Blue Jays and Ravens...cloudy...watched a photog sink up to his hips out in Chapel Meadow...tomorrow I'll use the cross country skis or snowshoes...it should be wonderful...snowing tonight...and I haven't seen this much snow in the Valley before.
