Notes: They're portmanteau, or some such...there's a TED youtube that goes over verbing, and lists six ways to make words. Two of them are compounding, and blending-blending has splinters. It's complicated. Compounding puts two words together, blending does this too, but shortens them. Motor hotel becomes Motel.
I have this idea that most all our words that look, well, like look, and well, like completely one word, are actually blends. Book look. Funnel tunnel...is k a blend!? is el? whatabout (compound!) nn, oo, ? an bl, and nd and, and it goes on and on...I have this notion if one could drill down thru the blends, a kinda fossil dig, big rig fig gig, one could reach what a word was before it got blended, compounded...com pound compound...blend...ed once a word meaning put together?....fossil fissile missile bristle, teach, reach, beach...beach beach (verbing)...anyway anyway, good news about the Jeep-broken radiator and fixable...Jeep is a compound?

In the August 9, 1936, strip, headlined "Wha's a Jeep?" [sic] Popeye asks Professor Brainstine what exactly a Jeep is. He gets the following response:
A Jeep is an animal living in a three dimensional world—in this case our world—but really belonging to a fourth dimensional world. Here's what happened. A number of Jeep life cells were somehow forced through the dimensional barrier into our world. They combined at a favorable time with free life cells of the African Hooey Hound.
