BenchTalk
Notes: sketch this afternoon from glimpse yesterday...Silver, my Jeep, was parked next to the sidewalk, and next to the bench these two chatterboxes were sitting on while I struggled with my sore back to get inside...I wanted to take photo...but reluctant to intrude...rolled out today to Ruby's at Orange AMTRAC...fish and chips, coffee...sat inside, the bar, sorta sports bar...watched replay of Dodgers and at Athletics...A's 4-3...their first win...1-6 for season...Dodgers like 6-2...Mookie Betts out with sore back...oh, Bill Mauldin cartoons are all just black and white...some kind of wide pen, or brush...
quote
Willie and Joe took on their final identities in the Italian campaign. Mauldin gave them beards, put bullet holes in their helmets, and began working with a brush instead of a pen, producing stark, bold lines that captured the grimness of the mountain war and the fatalistic exhaustion of the men who fought it.
