There are no motor vehicles or paved roads on the island. The main economic activity of the approximately 800 families on the island is farming, with fishing and tourism augmenting the subsistence economy.
... ... ...
There are over 80 ruins on the island. Most of these date to the Inca period circa the 15th century AD. Archaeologists have discovered evidence that people lived on the island as far back as the third millennium BC.

According to legends that refer to Inca mythology Isla de la Luna (Spanish for "island of the moon") is where Viracocha commanded the rising of the moon. Ruins of a supposed Inca nunnery (Mamakuna) occupy the oriental shore.

youtuber Mysterion took along a drone, and at 2:37 is a really good aerial view of the Nunnery...the three tocapus are on one end wall of a rectangular building...and there looks to be a forecourt to the building...like to find more about that building!...the area around Lake Titicaca is not much researched by archaeologists...though very famous to Tourists...Dodgers made out...lead off single for Maldonado...Calhoun up...the Bennet monolith that I went on and on about, is a representation of Pachamama...it was returned to Lake Titicaca to much fanfare...it was spirited away to the city earlier...a reverence for things thereabout by the tribes may slow down archaeologists' research...archaeologist, are, after all, tomb raiders!...Fletcher stretches a single to second on throw to third by Puig, which doesn't get Maldonado...two on!...how many out?...Simmons up...Simmons one of five on fan vote list...so maybe will make All Star team...so, so I was up most of the night looking for images of Pachamama...and it was an odd search...as I found these two images early on...fly out...Trout up...with first base open they'll walk him...yep...now Ohtani should be up!...but it's Upton...bases loaded...I don't think Ohtani is even in the line up...hmmph...2-0...a shot into right center...proved me wrong...Dodgers 3-2...Angels inflate a bit!...Pujols up...K...to top of 4th...

lead off K...oh!...I found it again...this is so cool...
In the mid-sixth century, an unusually tall young man was laid to rest on Peru's north coast at a site now known as Dos Cabezas. His face was covered with a striking copper burial mask... ... ...Underneath the mask, the young man was wearing a rectangular gold nose ornament with a silver step-design border. He had three other nose ornaments, including one that masterfully captures the salient features of an owl in hammered gold sheet and strip that was intentionally compressed from the sides and placed in the mouth of the deceased.
