You take such great pictures. I look at your site daily. I just think you could do so much better with a DSLR camera. For the shots you are taking a Nikon D300 or better yet a D3 would be perfect. If I win the lotto I will buy you one! Your pictures are good now considering your equipment. I just think they would be AMAZING with a camera meant for taking those pictures. Check out www.kenrockwell.com I'm not trying to be critical. I enjoy your pictures, I just think a better camera would make a world of difference.

Thanks Monte, and you're right of course, the scenery and critters hereabouts have often told me, "Hey, I'm posing here in a one in a million, and you're using THAT!"
On the CANON walk I had the chance to use their D40 with a 75-300mm Zoom optical diffraction lens, or something it's called. The lens is small enough that I could put it in the Lowpro holster bag I use...or if I had to I could use their next size up.
I've thought a lot about what set up is best for the critter pics and clips, and will probaby make a long digression here!
The Canon S5 and S3 are amazing cameras, and the other makes are probably their equal.
The DSLR mirrors prevent video(though Olympus had one that used a different through the lens mechanism). I could carry a camcorder and a DSLR, but I couldn't look through both view finders at the same time!
And I really like being able to view whille taking a clip, and take a pic...or, as I have to sometime to get a good exposure and forcus, stop the clip, take the pic, then start up the clip again. The last, Five Merganserlings, was like that. It's wonderful to take still pics, and make movies.
It seems like yesterday that my sister came home with a 10,000 dollar DSLR, she was a newspaper photog, and the paper was going digital, and her's wasn't the full time photojounalists', they were given 40,000 dollar cameras!
These point and shoots are perfect for reporting of course, and with the video, can make TV news too.
I dont know what professional news photogs are using...or even wedding photogs! Oh I do know that, and a few wedding photogs hereabouts...the Chapel does a booming business!...they use DSLRs and big film formats.
Because I like the point and shoots so much, I tend to shy away from the DSLRs, and even the big formats. Pentax makes, or made, something called a Pentax67, uses film twice the size of 35 mm, and I've seen a 400mm lens for it on ebay. Of course it weighs a ton, and doesn't have video!
Here's a set up I'm going to try as soon as I can find the right Allen wrench! I'm going to take the head off my broken SLIK Tripod and put it on the bottom of the post of the good one...then I'll have a pan head on both the top and bottom! On the bottom I'll put the S3 with the close up lens, which can be detached in a blink to put on the teleconvertor (I have two again), and on top is the S5 with its Teleconvertor.
I'll be quite a sight! A Lowpro bag with camers under each arm, and the tripod over my shoulder, hands free-- it'll balance easy with the two heads! The lower camera can be focused and the menus seen with the swing out and pivot lcd screen.
Having said all this, of course, I'll eventually get a DSLR, and even a Digiscope, see Mike's Birding Blog for some remarkable pics.
Where I present my pics and clips is here, and on my Sony dvd player, and on my walls, where I push pin up my 20 by 30 posters I get through Kodak Gallery. There too I send off Albums to my relatives...and when they visit, or I visit them, use a computer, mine, or theirs hooked up to my backup drive, to show off...and put everyone to sleep with home movies!

We're all taking great pics with these new cameras... I'm very grateful that they've come along when they have, during my stay here in the Valley.
A visit to Edie's (search google View from the Little Red Tent) will introduce some great hereabout pics, her's and other site's.
I'm waiting for Nat Geo to knock...they foot the bill for gear! But thanks for the lotto winnings offer!
