OTI: notes:6/7/18

Open To Interpretation

Notes: game on...on the radio...Dodgers at Pirates...day game...so on early, 9:45 am hereabout...top of 2nd...two out no one on...some disaster in the first seems to have happened...oh...Peterson had a home run in 1st...Dodgers 1-0...announcers said bullpen was up...must be Pirates'...church I went to as a kid was built like the overturned hull of a boat...a rounded ark...inside looking up, one could see the planks...not having much attention for the adult sermons, I'd count them...something to consider is my sermonizing hereabout!...rather not think of myself as preachy...like the media...everything has become some kind of sermon, or parable...maybe it has always been that way...now, the thought is, all the buildings and ceremonies of the Mesoamericans were some how connected to hallucinogens...and this a circumstance in pre-history world wide...and a natural step from this thought is to the thought that in dreams there are universal things common to everyone...and, and that would be Jung and his archetypes!...that boat like church of my youth was an analog to Viking boats, it was a Lutheran/Scandinavian congregation, and too, I suppose, to Noah's ark...and, supposing now, to boats in mythology....myths are dream related...'we all have that dream'...a line from the remake of movieTimeMachine...lead off double for Dodgers...top of third...

“We all have our time machines, don't we. Those that take us back are memories...And those that carry us forward, are dreams.”
H.G. Wells

and I suppose our memoires and day dreams manifest in our buildings, rituals, art, much as the Mesoamericans, just not so psychedelic...though there's a growing tendency to the fantastic in Hollywood!...most movies I won't watch a second time...and then there's movieValerianCityofaThousandPlanets!...growing up, us kids took note of odd things, like if you look at the blue sky and close one eye, the sky is a shade of blue, and you close that eye and open the other, the sky is another shade of blue...once I asked my folks why my vision was 'pixelated', and was rebuffed, like I'd stepped into forbidden knowledge!...and, this more to where I'm reaching...at a music camp's outdoor concerts in the mountains at night, sitting in the audience looking at the bright stage, I, on a whim, let my vision un focus, and just stared...and the performers on stage became surround by a bright sort of aurora...I just recalled that thinking on things...next time at a live stage show have to try that again, and update!...well, I'm reaching, and this a long lead in to where I left off yesterday: 'a picture perfect bunt'...runners first and third...one out for the Pirates...bottom of 3rd...Pirates 1-1...sac score...

from yesterday

For two strange timeless nights in almost complete darkness, Wasson and Richardson sat in an underground room with the curandera, Eva Mendez.

I found that yesterday while doing that post...(this post twenty seven in a series, see previous)...and it was a serendipity to what I'd just been searching...the geometric patterns we see sometimes with our eyes closed, brought on by fatigue...fatigue brings on hallucinations too...once the back of an eighteen wheeler's trailer looked like a tunnel, which I fortunately came to my senses enough to avoid!...that's an interesting notion...'coming to one's senses'...for sometime!...anyway, that scene above in the home's basement, like a dark cave, for two nights. dovetails with something I read...that if one blindfolds oneself for like four days one begins to hallucinate, not just seeing the geometric images, but outright visions...this happens to people who lose their vision...like fifteen percent see hallucinations...on reading that, I made a 'natural step', and thought, 'oh, that's what happened to stone age people in their caves...someone got lost in the darkness, for days, saw things and reported it, and worked out that in caves after time in darkness there were visions to be had!'...and too the geometric patterns would be seen...the geometric patterns have been studied...brb...

In 1926, Heinrich Klüver systematically studied the effects of mescaline (peyote) on the subjective experiences of its users. In addition to producing hallucinations characterized by bright, "highly saturated" colors and vivid imagery, Klüver noticed that mescaline produced recurring geometric patterns in different users. He called these patterns "form constants" and categorized four types: lattices (including honeycombs, checkerboards, and triangles), cobwebs, tunnels, and spirals.

let me see if I can find again the bit about blindness and visions...Dodgers 2-1...oh...Pirates whopped the Dodgers yesterday...11-9...and at the Big A Ohtani went four innings before a finger blister looked troublesome...had given up one run...but Angels came back, and the relievers held on...just...Angers 4 Royals 3...good game...much fun to be there...

They simply blindfolded thirteen healthy volunteers for four days - otherwise, their volunteers were able to walk inside and outside, talk to others, and listen to the TV. 10 out of 13 people reported hallucinations. Just like in Charles Bonnet syndrome, these were sometimes simple (flashing lights, geometric patterns) and sometimes complex (landscapes, people, buildings, sunsets - often seeming extremely vivid; more vivid than normal visual perceptions).

(in passing, article explains everything we see is a 'model'...somewhat like the shadows in Plato's cave)...Charles Bonnet syndrome...top of 5th...one out...

People with significant vision loss may have vivid, complex recurrent visual hallucinations (fictive visual percepts). One characteristic of these hallucinations is that they usually are "lilliputian" (hallucinations in which the characters or objects are smaller than normal). The most common hallucination is of faces or cartoons.[

well!...bouncing about, I find a wiki page that helps me out of the muddle I'm making!...

There has been a great deal of work trying to find evidence of motifs and compositions derived from entoptic phenomena in prehistoric art, especially rock art and megalithic art. The justification of this research is that entoptic phenomena normally occur during states of altered consciousness, the practice of which may impact our views of ancient religious and social practice.

hmmph...but what I was reaching for was this site that I found...

David Lewis-Williams who, in his book The Mind in the Cave, argues that the blob, dot and lattice patterns in the Chauvet cave are hallucinatory in nature. He argues that the hallucinations could have been the result of being in a dark cave with a flickering light, such as a fire. It has already been established by scientists, such as Purkinje, that a flickering light is capable of producing geometric hallucinations.

hmmph...read that, then read about the modern Mayan shamans in the home basement/cave...and that's 'strangely exact'...the Mayans had a fascination with caves, the Egyptians with tunneling...the Sybl of Cumae in her corbelled shrine...what got me going on this post, was the geometric patterns on Mesoamerican potteries...specifically that one of the Anasazi on ebay...wonder how it is doing....brb...still same...$202...1 day 8 hours left...and I thought, those patterns are somehow related to their visions...and thought maybe I could find something as specific as the step fret pattern I've been going on about...there are categories of these geometries, one being spirals, but nothing ever specific...so, no luck, sorta...Puig with an rbi double...pinch hitting?...yep...Dodgers 4-1...bottom of 6th...

Other scholars believe that the images one sees when working with entheogens or entering a trance state are a result of heightened awareness.  Entheogens allow the individual to perceive things that are there all the time but that he or she never notices because of distractions coming from mundane physical reality.  Neurons are firing in the visual cortex at all times without stimulation.  These firings are supposedly random, but it is possible that in the trance state the mind becomes capable of recognizing patterns in these firings.  It is possible that these patterns are present at all times, but our usual conditioning prevents us from noticing them in non-trance states.  So, perhaps the form-constants are the patterns in these non-stimulating firings and the trance state allows individuals to recognize them (Rosenshein 2011).

that, that's a natural step!...to consider that dreams are going on all the time!...for sometime where that stepping stone goes!...baseball games have typical sounds, and doings...chants, the wave, etc....and there's a new one I've noticed...if one listens to the crowd rumble during the game, now and then there are these 'coyote' yelps...first time I heard them was walking back to my jeep in the parking lot after a game...one fellow would yelp, then another, and then a bunch...my thought was the yelp sounds like a coyote, but last night I heard the calls by the left field foul pole, out about where I sit in the upper deck!...and thought, 'they sound like croqui frogs!!!'...they do...listen close to games on the radio and you'll hear them sometime...a few croquis on the game now, and it's in Pittsburgh...so a kind of wide spread thing!...I notice odd things...after the game last Saturday there were fireworks...I watched a bit, then left early, but while going past the end of the stadium, they were still going, and I could see where they launch...I have a thing for fireworks having watched them for years while working at the Park...backstage as I was,  pausing from work for the fireworks, I could watch them from where they launched...ceramic tubes in the ground...mortars..., so I'm at the end of the stadium, and the finale goes off...boom boom boom...and hundreds of the parked car's  horns go off...the theft alarms...and I was just laughing going back to my jeep...beep beep beep honk honk honk...then one by one they faded, shutting off...kind of like the alien spaceship's 'singing' in movieCloseEncountersoftheThirdKind...another movie I can watch over and over!...I haven't done my morning news browse yet...see what the volcanos are up to...burned children brought to US from Guatemala...our hospitals good with treatments...some things we do well...meanwhile, story has it President is mum on stories the hurricane in Puerto Rico has caused many what could be called collateral deaths, I guess...in the thousands...nothing new in 'news archaeology' search...oh!...today is the day NASA is said to have an announcement about Curiosity...the Mars rover...brb...two run home run for Bellinger...Dodgers 6-3...to bottom of 7th...hmmph...'organic molecules'...and 'methane'...no petroglyphs, no fossil, no alien...show us the alien!...sigh...we await the before and after of the 'alien(s)', who had best show up soon, as our fantasies about such are raging out of control!...

Scientists have long been baffled by the discovery of significant amounts of methane on Mars. On Earth, most methane is produced by biological sources, leading to hopes that it could suggest the Red Planet is more alive than we'd thought.

well, wait, methane shows up on other planets and moons too...NASA's story looks to be a promo to keep themselves funded!...

quote

As NASA notes in its news article on the June 2010 findings: "To date, methane-based life forms are only hypothetical. Scientists have not yet detected this form of life anywhere."[179] As the NASA statement also says: "some scientists believe these chemical signatures bolster the argument for a primitive, exotic form of life or precursor to life on Titan's surface."[

While the proportion of methane in the giant planets is relatively large, it spans a wide range, from non-existent (Venus) to trace (Earth, Mars, Enceladus, Triton, Pluto) to substantial (Titan), in the rest of the solar system.

and 'organic molecules'...to top of 8th...

quote

In the past, organic compounds were classified as those belonging to living organisms. However, the current definition includes all carbon-containing compounds, without being restricted to living systems. The simple presence of organic compounds does not imply that complex biological molecules, or even further, life, exists. Still, the great diversity of organic molecules drifting around in space is a phenomena to be examined. Where these substances originated, and how they were distributed throughout locations so different from Earth, may provide clues about the formation of our solar system, galaxy, and even our own planet.

...well, about now I go to youtube to see what the goof ball comments are going on about 'organic molecules on mars'...to bottom of 8th...brb
hmmph...not much on youtube...maybe NASA's site has the clip...brb..well...here's a link to clip, related to the news release one, which I can't find...and the usual useless troll comments...

I can't find the 'discussion'...that page links to the video I linked on youtube...which isn't a press conference...I'm supposing it happened...after game I'll roll over to my gym which has tvs...maybe news will replay it...can't find it currently being replayed on any news...one out bottom of 9th...home run..."now it's a one run game"...Dodgers coming apart like yesterday!...Dodgers 8-7...odds still with them...ground out two out...how's Hawaii?...fissure 8 still spewing...Pirates make out...Dodgers hurry home with their win...it's a big dark cave our there!...
