OTI:notes:8/9/18

Open To Interpretation

Notes: game on...on the radio...Dodgers 1 Rockies 1...to top of 6th?...Angels off today...there is a really smokey fire out along the Ortega Highway...rolled out to pizza place to watch the news...too late for local...so saw the national news coverage, which is little more than a log line...about anything and everything...nice thing about the web, if one has figured out how to use searches, one can drill down in a story...though even then, much is wanting...fire started in Holy Jim Canyon, which is kind of on Town's side of the mountains...looks to have burned south east until now it is lapping at Lake Elsinore...evacuations and such...sun going down looking red from the smoke...sky grey...but fire far enough away it doesn't smell smoky, and it isn't hard to breathe...hot though...on and on the heat goes...electromagnetic waves are odd...some materials stop some waves...famously, and ominously, the ozone layer stops UV rays...ultra violet...without that shield, deleterious effects beset living things...like sunburns...thinking on this, I wondered if IR waves are blocked by anything in the atmosphere...a study for sometime...noted pit vipers 'see' infrared with their 'pits'...kind of like a third eye...and jumping spiders see ultra violet...some animals can detect magnetism==the earth's magnetic field...thinking on magnetism, I wondered how far back knowledge of magnets goes...ancient Greeks called magnets loadstones, and loadstones occur naturally, and, it's not known for sure how they come to be magnetic...one thought is it is from lighting strikes...the first Greek to study loadstones is famous for his methods...

Many, most notably Aristotle, regarded him as the first philosopher in the Greek tradition,[1][2] and he is otherwise historically recognized as the first individual in Western civilization known to have entertained and engaged in scientific philosophy.[
Thales is recognized for breaking from the use of mythology to explain the world and the universe, and instead explaining natural objects and phenomena by theories and hypotheses, in a precursor to modern science.
... ... ...
As for the ability of a mover to move something else without being changed itself, Thales saw a commonality between that and the power of a living thing to act. The lodestone and the amber must be alive, and if that were so, there could be no difference between the living and the dead. When asked why he didn’t die if there was no difference, he replied "because there is no difference.

Dodgers wap a couple home runs...Dodgers 3-1...to bottom of 6th...I was trying to find if any of the ancients have 'captioned' what iron filings do around a magnet....first I had to find if they knew of magnets, and that looks to be so...they knew of loadstones...how far back that goes, I dunno...and they knew of iron...before iron was smelted from ore, there were  iron meteorites, and they used that iron...King Tut has a dagger made from meteorite iron...so, now I'm looking for the iron filings/magnetic field bit...

Dodger's dog a hard play...Rockies score...Dodgers 3-2...lol...got diverted!...saw that cube magnet and its surroundings, and thought of what else?...Rockies take the lead...Rockies 5-3...a match cut to:

hmmph...Mysterion's page ahead of me!...Dodgers answer back with back to back home runs...Dodgers 5-5....crowd getting to see good game...would have gone to watch on sports bar's tv, buy they don't subscribe to Dodger's cable provider...Oh!...go figure...I was going to begin this post with rain drops on water, one drop making ripples...a hark to my bucket tapping...thought being the ancients had to have seen this, and in their puzzlements made something of it...same thought in thinking on the iron filings...a wonder what they thought when they saw the magnetic field revealed...whole effort is like trying to 'back engineer' what the ancients thought...and, and that page's header pic is a drop falling on water!...we live in a kind of science experiment demonstration...trying to remember all the gee whiz science things I saw as a kid...simple things made by putting everyday things together...then there was things like mercury...and glow in the dark tikis...black light fluorescent...lava lamps came along later...looking at ancient artistries, which are always going on and on about the gods and such, it looks like scientific thinkers like Thales would sneak in science things...the ancient Greeks are a contradiction...on one hand they made artistries to the gods, on the other founded modern scientific thinking....it took math/geometry to make temples and pyramids and such...and too, math/geometry was needed to make smaller things...math/geometry is everywhere...firing clay is a scientific thing...mixing paints...cooking food...boiling water...medicines...all took experiment and figuring to do...Rockies rocking...runners on...second and third two out...Dodgers lost by a run last night to the As...lots of sites going on about water drops...looking about found some quotes from Rumi...forgot how spot on Rumi and the Sufis can be...Dodgers wap a home run...Dodgers 6-5...

that site that noted the Egyptian sun depictions don't show the rays around the sun, and the sun is always red, rather than yellow, is notable...don't know if their explanation of why that is is true--atmosphere different back then because of planets near the earth....sun very red tonight because of smoke...and was thinking on this, what the site noted, while looking for Egyptian sun rays like flowers...which I diverted from from tail end of yesterday's post...this post eighty third in a series...see previous...another home run...Dodgers 8-5...between now and next post, I'll look for the flowers!...Dodgers have the game in the net...oh...time for the net thing...noted has been net motifs...

Wow.... just like a larimar. Reflection and light as source

and, a compelling one!...what are those reflections called?...thing is, the Egyptians were big on reflecting pools...Andeans too...so, all the things light does on water a consideration...like the metal filings revealing the magnetic field, water reveals light--sun shafts, rainbows...

The pool symbol in Egyptian mythology represents water. It is a rectangle, longer horizontally than vertically, with seven equally spaced vertical zigzag lines within it.
It can also represent the primal waters that the Egyptians believed was the source of all things, which they called Nun. Occasionally, the sun god is depicted as a sun arising from the pool symbol.

COMPASS Title: Faience bowl with pool and lotus motifs

Blue glazed composition dish: expertly decorated in manganese, this dish shows a rectangular pool from which emerge groups of blue lotus flowers, a frequent symbol of rebirth. The pool is decorated with a pinwheel design surrounded by wavy lines, which are the hieroglyphic sign for water.

A common situation where caustics are visible is when light shines on a drinking glass. The glass casts a shadow, but also produces a curved region of bright light. In ideal circumstances (including perfectly parallel rays, as if from a point source at infinity), a nephroid-shaped patch of light can be produced.[3][4] Rippling caustics are commonly formed when light shines through waves on a body of water.

An epicycloid is a curve produced by tracing the path of a chosen point of a circle which rolls without slipping around a fixed circle.

misread that to mean the one circle rolled around the outside of the other...which I gather is what a nephroid is...
