Wintertime Owl
Early Breakfast, and a nap until worktime, and no pics today....sunny blueblue cool....Owl pic and clip from Merced Wildlife Refuge, and a report from some of that morning:...Two Great Horned Owls live in the Cottonwoods near the entrance, and one can walkabout thereabout, as there's a couple Trails....when I heard Owl from the Platform, I picked up and I took the Trail across the Irrigation Canal, and out to the Fields, and could hear Owls calling much like Sentinel and Ponderosa, but too far back in the Cottonwoods....the Low Voice Owl has a sorta stutter in Owl's call....on the Trail, startled three or more Hawks, that flew off in the Early Light....I set up the tripod with the digi, and waitedwatied...Owls were beyond the Trail, which one is limited to....and first One Owl flew to nearby Cottonwoods (near being like thirty yards!), and then Second Owl too...tried for pics of both, but lost sight of One Owl, but then Second Owl flew to where the First Owl had just been, and where I had just sighted and focused, so was lucky to get pics, digi pics and digi clips....Owl looked to be settling down, and I picked up, and returned to the Platform, enough light now to see Waterfowl about...more to follow!...at Lunch this evening, I took a walk, there's enough light now, almost, for pics...by next week I can do Lunch Walks!....got better directions to Eastman Lake...from the Mariposa Fairgrounds take Ben Hur to Raymond(?), which ends at Trail that goes to the Lake....tomorrowmorrow for sure a walkabout hereabout!...next weekend the Lake....
