Open To Interpretation

Notes: ...note the three emblems in following pic...fret, step, and triangle...I've posted this image, or one like it from an Aztec codex before...and have noted the step fret design...and side by side with the Andeans' step fret, which too have the fret, step, and triangle...the triangle has been a new addition!...noted it reaching for my Pythagorean whimsy...the school of Pythagoras reached to the New World...things to look for: five pointed stars and Pythagorean triangles!...but I'm wondering if this codex drawing is messed up somehow...note what looks to be highlight shading on the steps...codexes were made post-Columbus...I'm not even sure if I'm looking at the original...this could be a modern replica/rendering...

The earliest history of the codex is unknown. It is named after Gabriel Fejérváry (1780–1851), a Hungarian collector, and Joseph Mayer (1803–1886), an English antiquarian who bought the codex from Fejérváry. In 2004 Maarten Jansen and Gabina Aurora Pérez Jiménez proposed that it be given the indigenous name Codex Tezcatlipoca, from the Nahuatl name of the god Tezcatlipoca (who is shown, with black-and-yellow facial striping, in the centre of its first page), although it is not certain that its creators were Nahuas.[2]
It is currently kept in the World Museum Liverpool in Liverpool, England, having as its catalogue # 12014 M.[3] It is published in Volume 26 of the series Codices Selecti of the Akademische Druck - u. Verlagsanstalt - Graz. It is believed to have originated specifically in Veracruz.

I've noted the codex in an earlier post...that four square pic in particular...this post one hundred ten in a series...see previous...for sometime Black Elk Speaks, and the Aztec/Mayan story captions that go with the emblems on that four square pic!...anyway, would like the step/fret/triangle Aztec pic to be the real deal, as then I can set it beside the Moche step/fret/triangle, and go hog wild whimsical over how over such a stretch of time, and distance, could happen...those emblems show up in both Mesoamericans' and Andeans' artistries!...most everyone notes the steps and frets...don't know if anyone has noted the triangles!......oh, and for some reason a pacha search brought this up...

quote

One of the most intriguing activities depicted in Moche art is Ceremonial Badminton, an event where one team used spear throwers to propel feathered objects into the air, while a second team used spear throwers with attached cross pieces to entangle the feathered objects. Enacted by the Moche over a period of five centuries, Ceremonial Badminton appears to have been part of a large festival in which various ritual activities were performed, accompanied by music, dancing, drinking, and feasting.

quote

The pacha (Quechua pronunciation: [pætʃæ], often translated as world) was an Incan concept for dividing the different spheres of the cosmos in Incan mythology. There were three different levels of pacha: the hana pacha, hanan pacha or hanaq pacha (Quechua, meaning "world above"), ukhu pacha ("world below"), and kay pacha ("this world").[1]The realms are not solely spatial, but were simultaneously spatial and temporal.[2] Although the universe was considered a unified system within Incan cosmology, the division between the worlds was part of the dualism prominent in Incan beliefs, known as Yanantin. This dualism found that everything which existed had both features of any feature (both hot and cold, positive and negative, dark and light, etc.).[3]

Water Lily Ritual/Badminton

The Water Lily Ritual refers to scenes that feature a multitude of figures, variously human, anthropomorphic, or supernatural, engaged in what appears to be a ritual competition that involves launching spears at a flower. The flower-objects are occasionally tied to string. We do not yet understand the motivation or rules of engagement for this activity. The shuttlecock-shaped appearance of the flower had previously led scholars to refer to this as the “Badminton” scene.

quote

Moche culture was as brilliant and vicious as that of the Aztec. The pottery, typically stirrup jars, depicts homely life, elite ritual, individual portraits, medical problems, local animals, birds, and sea life, and famously erotic scenes. There are also numerous scenes of bloody battle, human sacrifice, and supernatural creatures that blend human bodies with crab claws, fish tails, sea urchin spines, and animal heads with large sharp teeth. Snarling deities are often shown cutting off heads with spade-shaped copper knives. It was not good to be a Moche alone after dark.

At first, Jennifer Herkes didn’t realize what had been found — she thought it was a piece of an atlatl dart.
“I thought, ‘Oh yeah, that’s neat,'” she recalled.
Then she saw it wasn’t just a piece — it was the whole spear.
“My heart rate started increasing, and I got goose bumps all over. I’d never seen anything like that before, it was amazing,” said Herkes, who is the heritage manager for the Carcross/Tagish First Nation in Yukon.

Chakana, the Incan Cross, are equivalent to the Yin-Yang symbol and the Zodiac. Through a central axis a shaman journeyed in trance to the lower plane or Underworld and the higher levels inhabited by the superior gods. The "chakana" is an invented tradition. Although the Chakana as the 'Andean cross', presented as an Inca and pre-Inca symbol bearing cultural, spiritual, or mystical interpretations as expressed in this article, has wide popularity in contemporary Andean culture, its roots are no older than the late 20th century, and the popular version, than 2003.

About the Chakana, the Inca Cross, mystic symbol

Find the Chakana in the Sacred Valley of the Incas

Find the Chakana Cross in the Machu Picchu Sanctuary and Citadel

In Machu Picchu, the Inca Cross will be found in the middle of the Temple of the Three Windows, but the kicker here is that visitors will find only the upper half of the Chakana… why? Because the Incas designed it in a way that, when the Sun shines over it, the lower half of the Chakana appears as a shadow, representing the spiritual world, thus making a whole Chakana, half material, half non-material. Inca special effects.
