Path Hawks

After Breakfast, crossed the Road to check the Favorite Trees...no luck....with coffee in hand, walked along the Path back to the Cabin...when I reached the bend by the Utility Pole, sighted Hawk, Cedar, perched on a low Alder Branch...took some pics, and Cedar looked to be settled, so I sat on the piled up Snow beside the Path...and just watched....after awhile, Cedar flew to the Ground, after something...pics...then flew back to the Alder..pics...then flew a long way into the Backyard by the Fig Tree...tried to follow, but no luck...but was already lucky...seventh day of Hawk sightings!...at the Cabin, geared up, and went out to the Oak Grove...thereabout, looking across the Road, and through the traffic, and by the tourists, I had a tinytiny glimpse of Hawk atop the Woodpecker Tree...thought to take farfarfar away pic, but had the digi with, so crossed the Road thinking to set up...but I saw Hawk fly from the Tree to the Tree Line along the Merced...went back to the Path at Lower Falls, and out around Bobcat Meadow...when I reached the Lilypads, Hawk flew low over to the Pines by Sentinel Parking....Tree Trunks were in between me and Hawk, so I had cover, but a jogger came up from behind, and a tourist was out in front approaching, and I tried to stop one, failed, and tried to get to the Trees before the other, and sorta failed...did get pics, but camera set for flight pics, 1000 at 1600 iso, from earlier with Cedar, so dark and grainy...Hawk was Coop, and I was veryvery near the wished for pic opportunity!...Coop stayed put for the jogger going by, but when I sighted the new camera, the tourist turned to look, they were right parallel with Coop, and Coop took off and flew to the Artist's Grove...miffed, I retrieved the tripod, and tried to follow...got halfway out on the Boardwalk, and just took a seat on its edge, disconsolate, and stared out over the Meadow for a long while....the jogger thought I was intruding on their use of the Path, and the tourist was just vocal and animated at time when quiet was required...one comes late to the concert, one should try to take a seat quiet...or in the gallery on the golf tee, not disturb one's backstroke...sigh...I'm often counseled that there will be other opportunities when I relate these mishaps...but it's just not so...photographing a critter is like an orchestrated tableau that has a lot of variables to make it come together--right time, place...and sometimes people..sometimes people! ...."Did you get the shot??"....being petulant I suppose, I answered no without speaking, and continued on the Path.....returning to the Cabin, at Lower Falls, heard Nuthatch's call....lots of Little Birds about high up...sunny blueblue with remaining Clouds from yesterday's Rain moving along the North Wall....went to the Lunch Sit Log at lunch...used a plastic trash bag to sit on and stay dry...two Acorn Woopeckers calling...Rock or Snow Fall crashing behind the clouds moving across Sentinel...and one car alarm set off another, and the second repeated it's sequence about four times!... Chickaree outside the Windows at Breaktime...and at the Log too...Coop's Favorite Trees looked to be those about Sentinel Parking...dont know how many more days the Hawks will be about...egg laying time is approaching I think....April looks to be when Hawks nest....Hawk yesterday, Oak, I photoraphed some other times, in December '08, Snow Hawk, and Woodpecker Tree Hawk, posts...Owl and Hawk dont get along, which may explain Owl being scarce of late...
