Creek Mallard

After Breakfast, paddled back to the Cabin along the Path, thinking to see Little Birds about the wet Ground and Puddles, but none to be seen....nor out in Bobcat Meadow on the Paths...heard and sighted Hawk, Redshoulder, overhead while crossing the Creek....was getting wet in the light showers, and didn't take camera out much...Little Birds, Yellow Rump Warblers, out along Lodgepole Point...heard Hawk again...took a seat on Owl Log...oh...Mallards back at the first Creek crossing...pics and clips at Duck Harbor...and Mallards again at Creek's End...pic and clip up of one Mallard...Two Ouzels about too...another set of pics and clips...warm, cloudy, it rained, showers mostly, but sometimes heavy, pretty much all day and into late night...at Lunch: Does and Fawns at the Diversion Channel again..pics....sat awhile at Ozone Boulder, under the Alder and a little bit out of the Rain...lots of Robins about....oh...heard Hawk a third time in morning walk when I got back to the Cabin....at work, friend counseled, 'snow at the high altitudes', so I said, 'coast?'....'coast'...then another friend happened along and related that his wife's car hit a rock in the road just past the diversion bridge--this just past Savages in the Merced Canyon where the Rock Slide is--wife okay, but car a wreck underneath...I think I'll stay put this weekend!...forecasts are for showers through Wednesday....

a Valley artist: Herman Herzog..oh, I stopped in the Museum a couple days back, for another looksee at the show, and was much taken with a little painting by Herzog, and maybe too by the subject, the Cosmopolitan Saloon. The link takes one to an old Nature Notes with grainy black and white pic of the painting, and story of the Saloon, and here too is another at NPS page about the show. The Saloon looks to have been near where the Chapel is now. Somewhere there must be a book of Herzog's paintings. He has some others of the Valley.

been off line due to illness for a while. slowly getting back into it. bad news about the clinic in the valley - i hope someone steps up at the last minute and saves it. weather has really been changing in the valley - i have heard on twitter today. sounds like a great 'light show' last night with all the thunder and lightning.
