Surf

At Huntington Beach Pier, preparations are underway for the upcoming Surf Contest...there were good waves this Morning...oh, not big...but no wind..wind is the bane of Huntington's surf...and the tide was out again, not so much as Yesterday, and that gave good shape...watched the old guys on long boards...only ones catching waves with any frequency, and exhibiting the gracefulness that surfing on  long boards has, and somehow more in keeping with the nature of the waves than the short boards, which are really frenetic...whole lot though looked to be beach bums eager to leave off and hoist a beer...hmmph...Balboa and Newport Piers haven't changed much..Balboa got a railing...but Huntington Pier and environs has become like a theme park, and much new multi story building underway...geared up and took 56 along GG to 39, about 5:30 am, and 29 along 39 to the Pier...back by 10 am...another Ruby's is at the end of the Pier...playing 40's music all day...breakfast, and watched the fishermen catch Silver Fish...asked what they were, and told Mackerel...doubting this, as they looked all silver when first caught, I looked in the creel...yep, Mackerel...I'm wondering if the Mackerel backs darken after they're caught....lots of fish lose their colors when caught...apparently, fishing gear to have is a salad tongs, most had one, and the creel to hang off the railng into the water with a rope...fish need to be kept fresh, cleaned and put on ice at the Pier...fresh caught fish can be eaten raw with no fishy taste...but fish begin to spoil almost immediately, and the fishy taste...I don't know yet what the skinny small fish is...tried to ask, but I have trouble with accents...'lazer' is what I heard...oh...Lizardfish!!...checked google images...have seen these being caught all three mornings...and fishermen keep them...they're keeping everything...cloudy overcast cool...oh...sighted dorsal fin breaching, Dolphin I think, like three times...but no luck with pic...blurry faraways of Pelicans....Pigeons, Seagulls, Pipers, Sparrows...
