Hotel Laguna:OTI::pics notes:::9/7/20

Open To Interpretation

Hotel Laguna

#stradaeasel

Notes: Out and back before dawn to Main Beach, Laguna Beach, rehearsing sketching the White Hotel in the distance in yesterday's pic from Heisler Park...I couldn't remember its name...simple enough, Hotel Laguna...oh, it deserves a song!...the architecture a fit for old downtown LA of the '30's, but here plunked down on the best beach like anywhere...leastwise for plein artists...once said to be a getaway for Hollywood stars...now, it's closed...been so for a couple years...difficult change of ownership, unresolved plans for renovations, not just the Hotel, but a city block swath of neighborhood along Hwy One...now with the shutdown, I dunno...maybe its shops and restaurant still open...oh, there must be songs and poems and detective stories about it!...brb....

LOOKING WEST FROM LAGUNA BEACH AT NIGHT
by Charles Wright

... ... ...

In summer, dance music is borne up
On the sea winds from the hotel's beach deck far below,
"Twist and Shout," or "Begin the Beguine."
It's nice to think that somewhere someone is having a good time,
And pleasant to picture them down there
Turned out, tipsy and flushed, in their white shorts and their turquoise shirts.

Sandpiper Inn, Corona del Mar

Oh, the Old Greek, who managed the place,
Who in childhood experienced the German camps,
Hired the loveliest girls to work the front desk...
A porter, I was there to be near the sea,
But incidentally took note of the girls'
Tales of nightclubbing in Laguna, Hotel Laguna,
And wished they'd take me along.

lol...anyway, I took, I thought, good reference photos, though I had to back up almost into the ocean as I only had the Canon Rebel with the 70-300 lens...and only have the one, too dark, and I dont know how to use this acer photo editing program yet to lighten it...hmmph...did get photo of the sketch....but I'll be back to all these sites...Aliso Beach is in Laguna...Salt Creek, Dana Point...
