Bear And Ravens

After Breakfast, checked the Dogwoods...quiet....gathered the gear, and thought to take along the drawing board, but couldn't locate the charcoals amidst the dishevelment....well, sometimes too many efforts at once, puts me in a funk, and so, took a nap...out and about around two...daytime too short!...checked the Dogwoods...Robins about, but hidden...on the Path, heard Flicker, and followed
Flicker's call to the same Dogwood Pileated Woodpecker was in yesterday.....set up for pics and clips, but Flicker behind Leaves...continued out to Two Top Pine Meadow...thought to have the Fantastic November Light during the walk, but Clouds coming in...puffy rows of Clouds...followed the Clouds!...pic up is from when Clouds passed over Half Dome...almost to Chapel Bridge on the Use Path, and remembered I thought to sit awhile at the Merced's Shore opposite Creek's End...maybe Critter would come along....was fresh Bear tracks in the Sand, but quiet, until I heard Owl, Sentinel, somewhere deep in the Woods....River too swift for a barefoot wade, even with the Boots it was a bit problematic--Pants wet about mid thigh...and cold of course...Bear must have done the same wadeacross--fresh prints in the Diversion Channel...followed hoo hooos, but couldn't locate Sentinel, and quiet once more...Clouds turning orange and pink, and sloshsloshed out to Two Top once more...scenics....Antlered Buck setting down into the Grassses for the Night...pic...back at the Backyard, Pileated calling...by the Three Dogwoods...too dark...check the Dogwoods tomorrowmorrow!...

Last Tuesday's Critter Count Walk continued:...Bear and Ravens:...after Doe and Fawn pics along Rocky Slope, angled left through Camp 4...Raven perched on Camp Stove...pic...crossed the Road...thought to check the Deer Carcass on the way to Two Top Pine Meadow....sighted Ravens...clip...zoomed in on Ravens for second clip, and when I panned down, surprised to see Bear...even more surprised when I reviewed the first clip...in that one, Bear is chasing off Two Coyotes...Bear tried to chase off Ravens too, climbing up Snag Pines...clip....circled around out to the Meadow...Mists over the Grasses, and thought to maybe see Coyote or Bear, but Bear and Coyote gone, likely up the Trail towards Beaver Bend...crossed the Meadow, and along the
Merced to Swinging Bridge....to be continued...

Book:

The Narrow Road to Oku by Matsuo Basho
translated by Donald Keene
illustrated by Miyata Masayuki

I've only glanced at the book a bit, and 'am a bit charmed with Basho's method...in his journal he writes up an account of a day's events, and how it brought him to write a haiku, and sometimes linked haiku with friends--it looks a lot like the blog!...and the book with the illustrations...well, the illustrations remind me a bit of hereabout.....here's a wiki page, which has a page from the journal...http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Oku_no_Hosomichi ....Masayuki is a world renowned illustrator--uses cut paper...

well, I'll have to add Japanese literature to the efforts list...

quote
A haibun may record a scene, or a special moment, in a highly descriptive and objective manner or may occupy a wholly fictional or dream-like space. The accompanying haiku may have a direct or subtle relationship with the prose and encompass or hint at the gist of what is recorded in the prose sections.

I have been on the look out for a word that fits "pics accompanied with photog's prose accounts", often anecdotal...see AA 40 Photographs....it's a curious thing to do, and one which I like, and work at hereabout, having noted my own self, works of art with a story attached have wings, while those anthologized, so to speak, look orphaned....haiku, in their brief capture of a moment, resemble pics....I've never been able to make much sense of haiku, but seeing how Basho uses them, well, haiku needs the context of the story....the authors in eternity are likely wincing at this rumination!
