California Poppies

It rained a little in the morning...but cleared...so the trip to Hite's Cove was back on schedule....Poppies are all along the Merced as one nears the Rock Slide..and as far as the Little Golden Gate Bridge...hiked out at Hite's as far as the little Creek...hiking partner saw a Salamander there...but I was too slow for pic...lots of flowers, but not many critters on Hite's walks....earlier in Mariposa, went to the DMV and re newed my license...then over to a mechanics garage to arrange for engine check on the Bus and a tow...thereabout is the little Mariposa Creek...volunteers looked to be cleaning it up...thought I heard an Owl...and looking about the Trees, saw Hawk fly up into the Magnificent Blue Sky!....pic...one of Coop's cousins...bought book: Important Bird Areas of California at Blue Heron gear shop...the Merced area is beset by development taking away wetlands for migrating birds..many of them raptors...saw and heard Ouzel singing back at the Merced on the far bank...clip...clip of Buzz Bird flying over Mariposa...lost...thought I'd left camera on in car, and deleted long clip with Buzz Bird on it by mistake......anyway...a beautiful day of flowers!!...and saw Hawk!....oh...and lots of talkabouts...at Happy Burger, Blue Heron, during the long ride...with many stops!...and at Last Chance for dinner....rideabouts in a car are much different than the usual Valley walks!!...small Deer jam by El Cap on way out...and another one by the Elm in Bobcat Meadow on the way back!...sunny blue...near seventy at Hite's...and low fifties back in the Valley...

Gorgeous David! That's on my list of trails i gotta do.
We saw some salamanders in Three Rivers. Very interesting to watch them, and i think it's cool that their appearance and behavior changes so much during mating season.

Here's a site page with story of Salamanders hereabout...seems they are on top of Half Dome!...which gives me a reason to do the silly thing of clamboring up the cables again!!
