Maybe Fish

"I think he has the bottom...or the bottom has him!" I said in a low voice so as not to be overheard by the fisherman with a death grip on his deeply bent over pole...the Ruby's waiter comensurated, and took my order for a root beer float, which I had ordered so I could sit awhile at one of Ruby's outside tables...I'd been standing a long while, looking over the rail, camera ready, ready to see, and trying to judge if there was going to be anything to see!...I've read if one hooks up to a big bottom feeding ray, it can be a long fight--lots of time when the ray just sits on the bottom not moving...which could maybe be the case, I was thinking...most of the other fishermen were paying little attention, and reeling in Mackerels...one had fifteen hooks on his Sabiki!...the more expert with these rigs have really long whip like poles with which they fling their line, with glow stick attached at night, way out...Seal was going after the glowsticks, which must attract little fish...now and then, passerbys from the Promenade would note the bent pole, and lean over the rail too to look...'hours' the waiter had whispered...finally, a couple onlookers persuaded the fisherman to allow their help, and while supporting the pole, and hand raising the line, they all managed to bring up--'a giant!' the kids shouted out!...yes, a giant seaweed clump...kids were teasing...effort continued to bring in the clump...I dunno...maybe fish entangled in the clump...another fisherman readied his hoop net...the pole had been passed off to a shaved head fellow with a build like Mr. Moto, and he leaned into the raising of line, and it snapped...'yeah, it was seaweed..'s okay' fisherman said...and his girl gave him a hug...Yesterday, rolled out with thought to go to Magnolia Beach, but monsoon clouds above promised a tropical sunset, so rolled to Balboa Pier...too early still when I arrived, so got a pastrami sandwich and Snapple and thought to find a place to sit and snack on the Island...on Ferry ride over, Seabirds trailing the Fishing Boat emptying its bait tanks, clip, Pelicans pic...and on return took another Ferry Ride Bay sunset clip, which is nice...clip for sometime...I was missing the Ocean sunset now, and hurried over to the Beach...Beach still has the Berm bulldozers made to protect against high surf and tide during the cyclones...clambered over it, and found an angle, but a photog working with a couple doing 'couple walking into sunset' pics, kept putting his head into my pics...hmmph...did get a few pics...and then out to Pier's End...sighted two small Rays caught...cloudy warm no breeze...wore my Yosemite ball cap whole time...usually I wear the wide brim rain hat with the chin strap, and even then hang on to it so not to have it blow off into the sea...cloudy a bit hereabout this morning...maybe some Rain will fall in Yosemite...sighted Cooper's Hawk in the Bald Cypress at the Donut Shop Pond...pics up..
