Violet-Green Swallow
After early breakfast...and a nap!...went out to Cook's and Lodgpole Point...pics and clips of Monarchs...oh...a couple other different butterflies before out in the Backyard...out to the Point....clip of male Oriole...and later in Cook's....clip and pics of a Female Oriole...they look so different...and thought she'd be the pic for the day...but this little Swallow in the evening walkabout has the stage...I was out by Two Top Pine....and found not just Seven...but Six too!...so all the Ducklings are doing fine and growing fast...lots of clips...filled up the card...I dont usually make a bird sighting list...but by Two Top there were all sorts this evening to see and hear....Violet Green Swallow (never ever thought I'd see a Swift or Swallow perched in daylight near the ground!), Speckled Sandpiper, Downy Woodpecker, Robin, Blue Jay, Mallards (six males...three females...and twelve ducklings!), Blackbird, Oriole, and could hear Grosbeak, Song Sparrow and Red Wing...I think I could hear Red Wing...anyway...it came home watching them how important wetlands are...the Ponds in Two Top Meadow have receded a lot...but they have been safe haven for the Ducklings...who can't fly...or likely negotiate the swift Merced...a thought here that rip rapped shorelines destroy slow water areas of shallows where the birds find food and shelter...the Ponds out in Cook's are lower too...but seem to be disappearing more to the proliferation of the Grasses...Polliwogs grow slow...still no legs....absolutely gorgeous day...sunny warm with cool breezes...those are members of Six in the background of the Swallow clip...oh...when at Creek's End, Merganser flew by furiously heading up the Creek!
